Help me with my Wii purchase

Anonymous
Kids really want a Wii for christmas. There seem to be many different kinds. Which one do I get? Is there a site that tells me about the different kinds? Is the Wii U the newest one?
Kids are 5 and 7, if that matters.
My son wants to be able to play sports games and mario kart.
Thanks for any help!

Not that many different kinds, actually. Just different colors.

Wii Sports comes with many Wii packages. Basic tennis, baseball, bowling, boxing. Should run you around $250 with a second controller.

Mario Kart will be $50. Plus you'll need a second wheel to be even-steven.

You will probably want a couple of memory cards.

All told you're looking int he $300 to $350 range.

I was expecting around 300, but this is 129, and it hsa everything I need except mario kart, right? Am I missing something?

No prices are dropping because the new system is coming out. If you buy the current Wii expect to get maybe three more years out it before they stop making new titles. However the new Wii U is supposed to be backwards compatible.

I did hear on the radio this morning that on or about the 18, Nintendo is supposed to be shipping the system to some stores so that you can demo it.

Also after looking at that bundle, you will still need to get a second controller, also check to see if it has the Nunchuk acessory for the controller in the box (and you will still need the Nunchuk for the second controller) some of the games on Will Resort require them.

We also love the Wii Fit - kids play with that all the time too.

If I were just buying one now, I'd buy the Wii U.

I have a Wii that we got for christmas a couple of years ago but we never opened it.

Here is a link if you're interested: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/vgm/3388976597.html

It's just sitting in our closet and I'd love to pass it on to someone who will actually use it.

Np. Does backwards compatible mean we can play old games on the Wii U?

According to Nintendo, yes. At least most of them
