| I just received a very nice Canon digital Rebel camera for my birthday. I know nothing about cameras. I do know I'd like to be able to take pictures of the kids when they are playing sports and I'm on the sidelines. What size/distance type telephoto lens would you recommend? Thank you. |

Here's a nice inexpensive lens with a decent zoom--

I have this one : http://www.amazon.com/Canon-100-400mm-f4-5-5-6L-Telephoto-Cameras/dp/B00007GQLS/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1350996660&sr=1-1&keywords=canon+100+-+400mm+lens
Bought it used for about 1k. Works wonderfully for football |
Indoor vs outdoor matters (of course price does as well). |
Certainly, it doesn't do as well in lower light, OP never said what sports her kids participated in. So football, soccer, baseball this one is great. Basketball, gymnastics, wrestling not so much (tho that might be the photographer )

1K?
Yikes. There must be something for non-camera buffs which still gets the job done? |
the lens linked to in 8:44 is a good value at $200 |
If she bought the standard package usally they throw that one in |
What's the price point for a telephoto lens in the mid-range? |
