car seat installation question

Anonymous
For those who had their car seat installation checked -- and thought you'd done it right -- had you in fact done it right? Our car seat installation seemed pretty straightforward and I'm pretty sure it's right. We did go get our first carseat checked but have now moved up to a convertible and haven't had a chance to go get it checked (because mostly it seems to be during the week) - am feeling semi-guilty in light of the percentages of people who supposedly don't have it installed right -- but, really? is it really that tough?

Ours was not quite right, and I'm glad we had it checked (although I couldn't say for sure if our improper installation would have posed a material safety hazard or not). The person who checked ours said something like 90% of the seats she checks are done improperly.

Do you have LATCH in your car? That seems to make it easier to install. That and a Britax carseat.

Depending on where you live, I know counties sometimes check carseats. Arlington is pretty lame about it, but Fairfax County offers one through the fire dept, and I work in MoCo at a big company and MoCo fire dept came to my work one day, which was awesome. I would contact some fire depts in your area to see if you can get it checked.

It's actually the Police Department that handles it in Fairfax County, not the Fire Department. Here's a link:
