Toys for Plane

Anonymous
We are taking an international trip with our 12 month old son next week and I wanted to get a few small toys that were new to him to give him on the plane. Key is small since we are trying to travel light. Any suggestions of what I can order from Amazon?

Things that open and close, eg, a small tackle box
Novel snacks
Small board books
Pop up tape (small bits of colored tape you pull up one at a time)-- my son loved pulling these out at that age
Stickers, if your child won't try to eat them
Something with flaps to lift/a peek-a-boo theme
Pretend electronics (as long as they are not too noisy)

Keep a Portable dvd player and ipad handy, those were life savers

Make sure to bring non-electronic toys for the periods at the beginning and end when you can't power anything on.

Plus, are 12 month olds really entertained by videos? I doubt it....

We got a lot of use out of these Elmo lift the flap books:

I know you want to bring small things, but be careful about things that can fit down the side of the seat. We had to retrieve things so many times on our recent flight--and it's not easy in that cramped space!

Stickers are tough at 12 months--often kids won't have the motor skills for them.

Books, if your kid is a fan. At that age, short (like 3-4 min) videos were a distraction, as were photos on my phone. A blanket for peekaboo games. A snack trap, especially if they've never used one before (and hold out, if they haven't).

surprising how many things can be toys. I saved the platic water cup I was served on the plane when my son was that age, and it kept him entertained for a long time.

Tomy Hide and Squeak Eggs. DS loved them for 1-2 years and they are quieter than the name suggests.
