All-terrain Stollers & Car Seats & Baby Carriers

Anonymous
We are in the process of picking our stroller and car seat. We have looked at the Bumbleride, Phil & Ted, Quinny, Bob Revolution, Orbit, and half a dozen other strollers. We are leaning toward the Quinny, does anyone have this one and have positive and negative comments? What about the other ones?

As for car seats, my favorite was the Orbit only because it would swivel around making it easier to take the child out, but I think this will be more important when we need the toddler seat and that has not been released quite yet. If we go with the Quinny Buzz we are thinking about going with the Maxi Cosi. Does anyone have this car seat? What are some of the positives and negatives?

For baby carriers we are debating between the Ergo and the Lascal. The Ergo has the most flexibility because it can be used on front, back, and side. With few exceptions, mostly my friends' husbands use the carrier and the mothers do not, is this the case with other people?

Any other advice would be helpful.

Baby Bjorn was great for us in early months... Ergo not until 5 months, and the infant insert never worked. The ring sling and the maya wrap were also OK, but short-lived (for us). To my surprise, she still loves the Bjorn, but we'll start with the Ergo in the next month or so.

The Graco SnugRide met our needs for a carseat, and we had bases in our two cars and in my mom's.

We got the MacLaren universal base for the SnugRide and is is brilliant with a HUGE basket underneath and it folds up small and slim. The Bob Revolution is a dream-- using it now with the carseat adjusted bar-- as I take it out with the dog, so am always pushing it one-handed. Smooth ride, easy to maneuver, durable.

We are new to this as well, but this is what we've found thus far. Test drove the Bugaboo and Phil and Ted, and didn't find either of them to be superior to the Bob for our needs (and we knew we didn't want a purely jogging stroller).

Good luck... and happy parenting!

I'm not due for another 4.5 weeks but we got the Maxi Cosi and Quinny Buzz. It's great since you can put the car seat with the stroller base and later on use just the stroller portion. I have another friend who's child is almost 4 months old and has the same one and LOVES it and says that it's super easy to use. One complaint she had initially was she had troubles getting the car seat out of her SUV, but I think with practice that gets easier. BTW, she's tiny (100lbs) and is able to deal with the stroller without any problems. I've been able to close up mine and put it in the back of my SUV without any problems either and being super prego makes me feel better about the stroller.

Best of luck!

If you are going to have the BOB, Phil and Ted, and such in the running for strollers than you should also consider the Mountain Buggy in my opinion. Honestly I desired the BOB revolution like no other, but in the end got a Mountain Buggy b/c of the adjustable handlebar. If you or your husband are tall this may be a decidiing factor. I found the handlebar more comfortable in a higher position which the Mountain Buggy has but the BOB does not. I did not look at the other strollers you have listed so can not comment on those.

That's good to know about the Mountain Buggy. That's why we got the Quinny - I am 5.2" and my husband is 6.4 and we needed a stroller that had the adjustable handlebar.
