Testing recommendations for possible asperger child?

Hi
My 8 year old son may have asperger's syndrome or something a bit short of that. He also has ADHD and some emotional issues (that may be caused by divorce). I need to get him tested thoroughly and well. He presently attends public school in the district and I am looking into applying to Ivy Mount and/or The Auburn School.
Does anyone have recommendations?
I know about Stixrud...I am wondering about others.
Thanks in advance!

Why don't you ask ivy mount for some recs?

We used Children's Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders in Rockville and were very happy with them. My child is too young for a complete neuropsych eval but we will be returning when he is 6. The neuropsych we use there told me she had a son with Asperger's which was very nice of her to share and made me feel she could really relate to me as another mom. They also took our insurance which was a big plus.

Daniel Amen has an office in Reston where they will do MRI testing..it will apparently show whether your child truly is on the autism spectrum as he believes children on the spectrum have certain similar neurological characteristics.

For floortime I would see Jake Greenspan of The Floortime Center in Bethesda.

My brother is an MD and told me the MRI claim by psychs was "dubious at best". (We were looking at a psychiatrist in Mclean who made a similar claim).

Run from the idea of MRI testing. There is no solid science behind the idea that it shows up on a MRI. I am sure some folks are making a lot of money off of this idea

I agree. While there have been some interesting studies noting differences in the brains of kids with ASD and typical kids, it is no where near the point anything can be diagnosed with an MRI.

Just because they've found some brain differences on MRIs doesn't mean all kids with ASDs have those brain differences. Similarly, just because they've found some genes associated with ASDs doesn't mean all kids with ASDs have those genes. there is simply no medical test for ASDs at this point in time.
