We are moving from Howard County MD to Oakton soon. I know that this is really late to start looking for a school so am very nervous. My almost 4 year old has already completed a year of Montessori and loves it. I would love to continue in Montessori but am shocked that it costs more than double for the same education in VA! Are there any slightly more affordable Montessori schools in the area, I am willing to drive a bit too. (perhaps 20 - 25minutes).
I would also appreciate recommendations for other good preschools where there is emphasis on reading, math etc. Thank you! |
Oakton Montessori is a pretty well known school. It is actually one of the cheaper in the area if you can believe it. Just check out Green Hedges one day to see the comparison. If you want schools much more affordable you will have to look for schools in Chantilly, Sterling, Manassas, Ashburn, etc. If you are moving to Oakton I would go with this Montessori since hopefully you will meet families in the area as well. It is also an elementary Montessori if you want to continue on that path. Sunset Hills Montessori, Reston Montessori, and Hunter Mill Montessori also get good reviews.
Fairfax Christian School is another option.
My son blossomed at Holly Brook Montessori, both socially and academically. The school is located 2 miles south from Tysons Corner. Small environment, unpretentious and very diverse. Much more affordable that Montessori Schools in DC and McLean.
I too would recommend Oakton Montessori. They have been in the community for over 30 year and offer an outstanding Montessori program. The community of families that are a part of the school are terrific, and really contribute to the special atmosphere that the school provides. Our four children really benefited from the experience that MSO offered. I would definately encourage you to take a look.
There is also Hope Montessori (not really sure where Oakton is) that goes up to 6th or 8th grade inside the beltway if you need to commute the other way.
I've heard good things about Hunter Mill Montessori.
I would also suggest Montessori School of Oakton. My three boys attended that school. And they have done remarkable well due to the Montessori foundation they received while there. It is the best in the area!!!
Reston Montessori and Sunset Hills Montessori in Reston are worth looking at as well as Good Beginnings in Reston. Depending on where you'll be living, they won't be too far from you.
Montessori Peace School in Herndon is a good choice as well. My sisters kids have gone there the past couple years and loved it. One of the main teachers used to be with Sunset Hills Montessori for years (she had one of the most popular classes always had a waiting list) but had a falling out with the principal. Its within your time frame and I believe much more reasonably priced than the other options. They do have their prices on their website http://montessoripeaceschool.com.
beginning bridges in Franklin Farm part of Herndon. We live in Oakton and it is only 10 minutes from us. Great preschool!
