| I would love to connect with other families who are/are planning to "homeschool" for preschool but am not sure where to start. Any leads would be very welcome. Thanks! |
| Given that preschool is really optional, I don't think that most people would consider teaching your 3 year old at home "home schooling." |

Isnt the biggest point of preschool socialization?
Have you looked at the productive parenting site? |
Yup, this. |

I've been homeschooling my son for a year, with two other parents/kids. They all started at 19mos and 2. Those two kids are going to "real" preschool and i will continue homeschooling my son (3.5) and my daughter (20mos) for another year. They are 20 mos and 3.5. Email me and I can forward you some ideas and websites. I've loved it.

| Didn't this used to just be called "staying at home with your kids"? |
|
It is called parenting!

I'm kind of surprised at the negative comments on this forum regarding this Mother's desire to homeschool her child.
Everywhere I go people are urging me to put my child into a preschool situation so I can have a break, or so they can be ready for K. What other things have I heard? That kids need socialization, they'll like it, they are ready for it, all the kids that age will be in school..... It seems to me that a lot of parenting ends at 2 or 3 in this area (I do live in MoCo) and people are ready to pawn their kids off on someone else to teach them shapes and colors. I agree, it is called parenting, but there are so few resources on how to be a decent parent, that some parents use forums to get tips from others who have figured it out. Yes, it is parenting, lets give this mom a hand for wanting to actively parent and educate her child. I've loved meeting up with a few other parents every week to teach our kids things. They have all learned their manners, been potty trained, colors, abcs, counting, about the environment, animals, gardening - all in 2-3 hours of a playmate with a little structure. It has been awesome. It is awesome, and I'm excited to do it with both of my kids while the other 2 kids in our group go to more formal situations where someone else is paid to ..educate them. I've got an in home mixed age Montessori, and it's wonderful. |
