Republicans, guns, and birth control

Anonymous
Why is it that Republicans wouldn't dream of banning guns or supporting gun control because people kill people, not guns, but-
they want to ban birth control and HPV vaccines because it encourages promiscuity?
If we expanded the former argument to the latter, don't people fuck people?

I don't know of Republicans that want to "ban birth control"....all Republicans that I have talked to just don't want the government to be responsible for paying for it...or for the government to mandate that employers pay for it. And the reason for that is not because it "encourages promiscuity"

But men on Medicare/Medicaid or on their employer's insurance get their viagra paid for?

What is the reason for that?

Not normally interested in defending Republicans, but I have to point out that Republicans aren't forcing people to own guns, and they aren't forcing people to forego the HPV vaccine. They want to leave both up to the individual to decide what is right for their own protection.

Some do want to ban it, but not many, as you said. A bigger issue, to me at least, is the number that don't want it taught in schools, for the same "encourages promiscuity" reason. I grew up near the Alabama/Mississippi line, and I saw how well that worked out.(Fortunately, I went to a private school that had no such illusions) IMHO, employers should not be in the business of picking and choosing medical coverage for all of their employees based on their personal opinion. If the insurance companies just offered standard plans to everyone, then each person could choose what they wanted based on their personal beliefs, and we'd all save a lot of time, money, and effort arguing about things like this.

Regardless if its right or wrong insurance sees a penis that doesn't function properly as a medical condition that needs to be treated, bc for pregnancy avoidance is not used to treat an illness

Please the republicans do not belief in individual rights. They want to control who you marry, what type of drugs you take, not allow family planning, not allow euthanasia, etc. As a result privacy rights are an antithesis to the core value of the party.

Of all the Republican candidates, Rick Santorum may actually be the most authoritarian and dangerous. In a 2006 interview with NPR, he actually rejected “this whole idea of personal autonomy.”

One of the criticisms I make is to what I refer to as more of a libertarianish right. You know, the left has gone so far left and the right in some respects has gone so far right that they touch each other. They come around in the circle. This whole idea of personal autonomy, well I don’t think most conservatives hold that point of view. Some do. They have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to do, government should keep our taxes down and keep our regulations low, that we shouldn’t get involved in the bedroom, we shouldn’t get involved in cultural issues. You know, people should do whatever they want. Well, that is not how traditional conservatives view the world and I think most conservatives understand that individuals can’t go it alone. That there is no such society that I am aware of, where we’ve had radical individualism and that it succeeds as a culture.

He wants government to be just small enough to fit in your bedroom. And your womb. And this notion that states have rights is absurd. State governments have authorities, not rights. Individuals have rights, and only individuals.

Cool story, Santorum represents the republican party? Is that why he was nominated to run for President? Info from NPR? It's another liberal mouthpiece here you go http://bit.ly/LlD0ED

Read bolded text, the PP is stating that BC as a pure function for pregnancy avoidance does not treat an illness or medical condition.
