I have been exclusively breast feeding DS (3 months old) but he will be going to daycare soon and needs to get used to a bottle (I'll be pumping). I have the Medela pump and my husband, mother, and I have all tried to feed him using the Medela bottle and it leaks every time. It's not that it's leaking out of his mouth - it leaks out of the bottle itself. It gets him all wet and makes the feeding really difficult.
Any advice on good bottles that won't leak? I want to solve this problem before he's in daycare. Thank you! |
We have used Medela bottles for 8 mos and have had no leaks. I suggest checking how the nipples fit in the bottle. THey need to be pulled all the way into the cap tightly and the tops screwed on tight.

I like Dr. Brown's natural flow bottles. They are BPA free and have a great system to allow air to enter the bottle so your baby's sucking doesn't create a vacuum. We haven't had any leaking problems. |
this is not helpful except to concur that the medela bottles leak awfully - we never switched but wish we had early on |
Dr. Brown bottles will leak if they're shakened too much. If the tube in the bottle is full of Milk, just open the top to release the milk. Otherwise, the milk will leak when you turn the bottle upside down.
Also, Dr. Brown sells different level nipples. Level 1 is for 0 to 3 months. If you decide to use Dr. Brown bottles (which is what I use), look at the nipple closely to determine the level. My daughter started with Level 1 nipples and now she's on Level 2 and she's 4 months old. Stephanie |
We like the Playtex drop-ins and haven't had any problems with leaking. |
I've used Medela (never leaked) and Avent bottles Avent is good as baby grows because you just change the top and it becomes a sippy cup |
I think all bottles CAN leak if you don't screw them on correctly. We have had many different kinds of bottles. We used Avent to begin with, but switched due to concerns with BPA. We now have Born Free and I like them. |
Not sure if you are warming the bottles, but most bottles need to be retightened after that. |
we've had luck with the gerber clearview (bpa-free). though, we found that the flow from the nipple was too fast, so we used nipples from dr. brown's bottles. the clearview caps actually smoosh the nipple tip a little bit (hard to explain), which prevents leaks. |
