Hi,
Does anyone know anything about Little Flower Montessori, the bilingual program in Columbia Heights? Or any other bilingual preschools? We are looking for a September 2009 enrollment in preparation for school at Oyster. I'd appreciate any information you might be able to provide. Thanks! |
funny, I was just going to post if anyone knew anything (good or bad) about Little Flower and thought I should search the forum first... ![]() Thanks! |
Adams Morgan parent here. Good idea to start early and take your time visiting and getting to know programs. Open house season starts in Sept/Oct depending on schools. Applications typically due Jan-March. We're bilingual and will be inboundary Oyster in 2 years. We've checked out much of NW preschool scene.
DC Bilingual charter school run by CentroNia offers bilingual daycare as well. Latin American Montessori Bilingual charter school is well regarded but not in Columbia Hts. Rosemount has programs but typically long waitlists with focus on Head Start families. The Spanish Educational Development center on Adams Mill is moving to Petworth and it's not clear what it's future services will include. If Little Flower is close, might as well check it out, no? Unfortunately I have no first-hand experience and have never heard much about it. For OP, if by preparing for Oyster you mean DC does not speak Spanish, you may want to check out immersion programs like Communikids. It's in Tenleytown, but really well run. I'm sure there are other options. Please share what you find and good luck! |
I belong to a Yahoo group called MomsInTheCity and I received the following response about Little Flower from one of the moms:
The thing for me is the price of all the popular schools are out of my range, at least until I return to work. Little Flower's prices are right on target for us. I don't know what to say about that potty training thing she mentions. Every book I read says most kids (boys especially) are no where near ready to even start potty training until roughly 28 months old. So...I think I'm going to have to hear that "rule" from the headmaster herself - it's not mentioned on their website at all. But then, it's not a real good website either. |
Thanks for sharing what you found out! We will plan to visit this fall and post any thoughts.

Our DD has been at Little Flower for a year now. We couldn't be happier, and neither could she, we believe. The school offers a wonder, warm, and caring environment for children and our dd has thrived there. I do believe that Montessori education is a good fit for her personality, so I can't comment on the negatives of that. Over the last year she has developed quite a strong bond with her teachers and other students. She started at the very youngest end of the spectrum (2 years 2 months, I think) but she fit right in. She was potty trained before going but I know, personally, there are a LOT of children there now that are not although they might want them to have been at least introduced to the concept of potty training. All the children, and parents, we've met there seemed quite happy. Post your email and I'd be happy to answer other questions you might have and I can get into specifics about curriculum, structure, etc.

Oh, PP here...don't rely on the website or email for information or communication...call the school! Best time to reach head teacher (Mrs. Noguchi) is first thing in the morning 8-9am or after 3. |
Thanks so much for all of the information. My email address: jennrgolden@jennifergolden.com

Hi all,
I work at CommuniKids and we are opening a full-time (9-3 with before and aftercare) language immersion preschool in September 2009. Here is our website for information: http://www.communikids.com/SpanishImmersionPreschool.php. We have been around as a language-enrichment program since 2005 and are going to have an absolutely wonderful team in place for the fall. Sincerely, Karen |
