Does anyone have any experience with or recommendations for vendors/stores that stock furniture, bedding and toys that are natural and safe?
THANKS! |
There is a book, Raising Baby Green, that has a lot of good resources for organic/eco-friendly everything, including paint for the nursery. The book is not DC specific, but the author provides product websites.

We got our organic mattress from healthychild.com
If you do a google search for 'organic baby mattress sheets' or something similar you will get tons of listings. There are A LOT of online retailers that do organic nursery stuff. Good luck! |
I found A LOT of things online, not at the big baby stores like BRU. Most of the items they advertise as "organic" are not. The top cover of the mattress might be, but the materials in the mattress are not. Personally, we decided that the crib was the most important to us in terms of materials used as she is sleeping there, will likley chew it, etc. My biggest challenge was finding a crib that was not made with toxic glues, finishes, not made in China etc. and did not cost $1500! We went with a crib from Pacific Rim Woodworking ($700), made in Oregon and made by hand with no toxic glues or finishes. Some (many!!) of my friends roll their eyes at me, but I am happy with it and that what matters! |
