Tender Roots (v Intown & Blue Igloo)

I've heard wonderful things about Blue Igloo & Intown. Is Tender Roots in Arlington comparable? I can find almost no info on them, so I would love any info you all might have.

If not Tender Roots, what are good alternatives to Intown for my 8 month old? Thanks in advance.

I live in Clarendon, BTW.

I haven't heard positive things about Tender Roots but maybe things have improved since last year (all the staff quit halfway through the year).

For alternates to Intown, consider Playgroup in the Park or Little Graces but I think all these playgroups' application deadlines have passed.

My dc went there for two years and we were there during the rough transition when two teachers left. While I know it upset a lot of parents, it wasn't that big of a deal to me, and my dc adjusted to new teachers just fine. In some ways, it made her transition to preschool that much easier since she learned to bond with new teachers easily. We loved the old teachers and we loved their replacements as well and my kid loved going. The access to so many different kinds of art materials for a 1 or 2 year old was fantastic and dc absolutely loved drawing, painting, making collages, using clay, etc., and we live right in Clarendon so it was walkable for us. My kid still talks about TR and has great memories. I still keep in touch with most of the parents as well and our kids still see each other regularly.

Tender Roots seems to have trouble keeping their often highly qualified and great teachers/directors for very long.

We had an amazing experience at Tender Roots and I think the quality of the program, space, and materials is MUCH nicer than Intown and Blue Igloo (although Blue Igloo and Intown are nice as well). It just felt like more of a real school to me. We made great friends at Tender Roots and my child loved attending. I agree there is some teacher turn-over but it never really bothered me because all the teachers were fantastic and it is a co-op - all the parents were involved and active.

How much does Tender Roots cost? I can't find anything on their website

It starts in the mid-300's per month. Plus you take on an executive duty, and have monthly obligation to bring a snack and clean.

I believe Tender Roots is $380/week (I toured a couple of months ago). It looks like a great program -- I'm surprised that it is not getting better reviews here. I would have loved to enroll my child there, but it was a bit out of our price range.

So is it $12k a year or $2700 a year? Big difference.

Anyone?

I recall it being closer to a bit over $3000 a year for a 2-day program and little over $4000 for the 3-day, but that was a year or two ago. The "job" wasn't a huge time commitment, and bringing snack for the kids once a month also wasn't a huge deal - they are little, they don't eat much, and since every kid has a parent/caregiver with them, everyone pitches in to help clean up. Whoever said $380/week must have meant $380/month maybe? We loved our time there and if you have the means, it's a great place to explore with your child.

WOW - $4000 for 3 days a week?! Intown and Blue Igloo are less than $3000 for 5 days a week.
