I was diagnosed with PCOS 4 years ago when we were trying to conceive for the first time. I was on glucophage for awhile and tried clomid to no avail. I joined a gym in Oct 2003 and by Feb 2004 was pregnant (perhaps a miracle). Now, we are ready for #2. I gained 68 lbs with my first pregnancy and have only lost about 30 of that. I went back to my doctor to start the process over. He has been wonderful through everything and I trust him completely. But, after a few months on glucophage and one cycle of clomid, nothing has happened. I know a month is not a long time but since I'm 4 years older now and already have the history, he's not messing around and has ordered clomid and ultrasounds to be followed by an HCG shot in January. I've done some research and haven't found many negatives but a friend of mine in the VA/DC area told me to post my question here. She said it has been very helpful to her. So...has anyone had any experience with the Clomid, ultrasound, HCG treatment? If so, what can I expect? Anything to be hesitant about? My husband is concerned that with the drugs and HCG shot there could be potential consequences to the baby (if we're lucky enough to conceive). Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

there is no danger to the baby... and clomide is a very common drug that is used to treat infertility... and its much better than getting the shots ,,, just be patient... i have polycystic ovaries too ... but i never tried glycophage ... does glycophage help with weight loss ?? i have a son from Ivf and now i am pregnant again .. without any treatment. !! I think u should start working out again because it helps with getting pregnant |
I also have PCOS and was on metformin to get pregnant. It's used to treat insulin issues and studies have shown it will assist women with PCOS to increase their chances of getting pregnant (80% in the first 6 months). I got pregnant after only 2 months on it.
I also second the weight loss line. It's something I struggle with, but know that to keep the PCOS more controlled I need to keep my weight down and watch my diet. Good luck! |
Are you seeing a reproductive endocrinologist? most regular OBs don't know a lot about fertility treatment and will just put you on clomid indefinitely.
I have PCOS and clomid did not work for me AT ALL. My RE put me on glucophage and I did a round of injectible fertility drugs -- this did work for baby #1. After the first baby, I got pg on glocophage alone. It's really different for everyone, and it's also possible that there's something going on in addition to PCOS (that was the case with me -- endometriosis). So please see a real board certified reproductive endocrinologist, even if you don't want to do IVF. They have all the latest research in mind and can void wasting months with your regular doctor. Good luck!!!! |
