I'd like to take DH off for a fun/romantic weekend away for his birthday at the end of March. Budget is about $1000, and so it should be within driving distance or a cheap plane or train ride. We like cities as well as escapes in the country, but I don't think we want to do the "Inn at Little Washington" type thing, although I guess we could! We are not super fancy but love gourmet food.
Any ideas? |
What about Charlottesville?
How about going up to New Hope, PA. Lots of great restaurants and galleries and it is only about a two and a half hour drive.
Fly out of B'more and you could have a fun weekend down in Charleston, SC. Great food, gorgeous old town and the beaches.
Great ideas, thanks!
You can always rent a little cabin away from everyone else. Grill some steaks or lobsters. Walk in the woods. Lounge away hours in bed.
St. Michaels, Charlottesville area, or a flight to New Orleans? Hot air balloon ride in Orange, Va? They also have sky diving there. If you drive you could have a wonderful hotel weekend in NYC with that budget. If he would like Vegas you could easily find a package for that price. Other adventurous ideas - Key West weekend w/an intro to scuba? Or hit Miami Beach and get a VIP concierge service to set up an evening of dinner and dancing with no-velvet-ropes passes.
We went to New Hope for a wedding and it was a lot of fun, country inn and art galleries, antiquing or canoeing during the day and lots of places to go at night, fun people watching, they get a wide range of people from PA, NJ and NY for such a small town.
NYC would be my pick ... maybe driving to spend more of the budget on the hotel and/or cultural stuff. My best romantic weekends ever have been in NYC ...
Savannah is nice, though a bit of a long drive.
