What Catholics Really Think about the Contraception Debate

So basically the sensitivities we are "protecting" are those of the church hierarchy, not the average Catholic. First of all, I wish more Catholics would be willing to confront their bishops instead of just using birth control and keeping quiet about it. Second, I don't know why non-Catholics should suffer to keep the Catholic hierarchy happy when the majority of Catholics don't even care about this.

C'mon folks, it's time for you all to stand up for yourselves - because the rest of us (who work or study at Catholic institutions) are getting nailed for this, in some alleged effort to protect your religious "rights" which you don't even want!

...who ironically have no use for it. We hope.

Nope. Benedict is incredibly conservative and his being selected was a surprise for a number of more progressive Catholics. However, some just want to roll back Vatican II and hope that the Church regresses. I guess at least he suggested using condoms if you have AIDS isn't a huge sin compared to infecting someone, so that's something.

I think PP was looking past Benedict.

Oh. If that's the case, then I totally agree.

The pope made a mistake back in the day.
Sometime that will change and the church will get a new tenet.
As it stands there are a lot of tenets that contradict each other
For the bishops and politicians it is just a power play

So the Church is rent by its tenets?

Catholics believe averybody should pay for thier own sex....and their own abortions. it would be more appropriate to subsidize food. Only a pervert would force people to subsidize sex and abortion but not food.

You can't be healthy if you are starving. Food should definitely be part of health care. Thanks for suggesting it!

Pretty sure the Church actually believes that no one should have an abortion - or sex that requires any payment. You appear to have confused Catholics with libertarians. Common mistake.

Ever hear of food stamps?

Fine.. Subsidize abortion and contraception only for those who collect food stamps.
