Post-baby abdominal exercise suggestions

Anonymous
Hi!
I have an 8 month old and I've lost almost all of the weight I'd gained when pregnant, but my stomach is still a little flabby from the whole thing. It looks fine when I'm standing or so, but when I sit it bubbles up and I am starting to get self conscious about it! I have no time or money to join a gym. I actually have a real dislike for gyms and think when I've joined them, I'll work out more for a few months and then completely stop because I get so burnt out. I joined Curves and stuck with it for over a year a while back, but I don't think it's good for this type of real toning.

What types of exercises did you do to flatten your belly?

Pilates is great for working the deep abdominal muscles that you don't normally use and I can definitely tell my abs are firmer from it. BUT you have to be careful not to strain your neck and stretch between the exercises. My belly is still a bit flabby, but ALOT less flabby since I took up Pilates, Yoga and Zumba (I gained 60 pounds on my last pregnancy). I have a library of video workouts, take it at my gym and teach classes at a dance studio. If you don't like gyms, I'd check out dance or mind body studios or the library to check out different workouts.

Are there any videos that you would recommend?

Yes, the Winsor Pilates videos are the best as most pilates teachers will agree.

Oh and as far as dance workout videos, I have: Crunch Cardio Salsa, World Dance Workout, Samba Party, Madonna Grimes Hip Hop workout, The Method Afro Brazilian Cardio, and of course my all time favorite Zumba 4-pack DVD..but you can only get that one on zumba's website. I used to have a Hula workout, but can't remember what that one is called.

Also, if you have On Demand on your TV there is an exercise channel and there are a bunch of different types of exercises. I've done some, they are ok (I am more of a gym person). some of the "classes" seem to be cut short. Perhaps someone has a suggestion of which are good ones to do.

I just tried searching on demand- it's a huge mess to try to find anything- how do you get to exercise channels? thanks..

Definitely pilates. It is by far the best for flattening your stomach as it works the deep muscles and your entire core. Good luck.

Lipo-dissolve.

Ha ha. No seriously... at the risk of sounding defeatist, I've been doing Pilates for years, have abs of steel, and I STILL have the flabby tummy pooch from my last pregnancy. I'm really not sure ab workouts fix this for most women.

What is Lipo Dissolve?

It's advertised as a non-surgical tummy tuck that has the added effect of tightening skin. Its a medical procedure that's been used in Europe for a while, but is fairly new here. (Basically its a series of injections into fatty areas that causes fat cells to burst and the water to be reabsorbed by the body). I have heard good things about it, but admittedly don't know all the facts... I just keep hearing the advertisements on the radio!
