Question about baby acne

Anonymous
Hello! My DD is seven weeks & for the last two weeks she has had baby acne. I had her at the pediatrician about a week and a half ago and the ped confirmed that it is baby acne. However, my understanding is that baby acne is not supposed to itch and DD is definitely itchy. It one respect, the acne seems to be clearing but now her skin is very dry and often red. Now, I am starting to wonder is she really has eczema or acne or a combination of both. Any one out there have experience with this condition? Thanks.

My baby had a TERRIBLE outbreak at 5 weeks. It did not really look like the pictures of baby acne on the internet, so I took her to the doctor. They recommended leaving it alone. After it got really bad, I broke down and put some lotion on the really bad parts - don't do it! It made it much worse.

Let it go for a few more days and take DB in to the pediatrician if you are worried.

Don't worry - it does go away!

I was soooo upset when DD started with the baby acne. She was about 5 weeks when it hit, and good lord it looked horrible. That and her hair was falling out too, I often joked that I was going to have to get her baby Rogain and baby Proactiv. It got so horrible that I took her to the pediatrician. All the doctor did was confirm it was baby acne and that in extreme cases they give steriods etc, (which I was not for) and they assured me that it would go away. I suppose we were lucky as it wasn't the summer time (she's almost 6 months old now, so it was still chilly out) so I just kept a hat on her and pulled it down as the worst places were on her forehead.

It does go away and it cleared up beautifully and it really only took a few weeks. I've read (which freaked me out) that it can take months but everyone I've spoken to said their child's acne only lasted a few weeks to a month.

Best,
Christina

Baby Proactiv. Who would be the spokesperson?

both my kids had bad baby acne. It looks HORRIBLE but they are not uncomfortable from it, they are just uncomfortable from being a squirmy newborn. I'd say the peak of it was 6-10 weeks. My youngest is 4 months now and it is totally gone.

It is just horomones from pregnancy passing out of the baby's system. Don't add ANYTHING to them; it's hormonal and it will go away on it's own.

It does stink if someone is coming to visit and take a bunch of pics--with the first baby, my sister came for a week during that time and took a bunch of pictures and they were all of my zitty baby. We agreed a few months later that he was practically unrecognizable.

When my DS got baby acne, my ped recommend washing his hair everyday --- basically dandriff from his head was causing the break out. It worked.

Is it normal for baby acne to appear on eye lids?
