Thanks for the post. Just out of curiosity, have you heard of Core Rhythms - I think made by the people who do Dancing with the Stars. What do you think of it? Is it just zumba repackaged?

It looked awsome! Is there anywhere to do Zumba in DC?

There are tons of Zumba classes everywhere. It is exploding. I have not heard of Core Rhythms...but I will tell you what is so unique about Zumba compared to other dance fitness workouts. Zumba is really about feeling the music. We never use those aerobic mixes that keep the same tempo through the whole workout. We use REAL music from Zumba mixed with music you would hear at a dance club, and we really dance...to the rhythm changes in each song. Each routine is choreographed by the instructor. No 32 counts of step 1, 32 counts of step 2 - yawn! Zumba is all about fun fun fun!

I started Zumba in April and love it! Lost 10 pounds and its fun. I had a hard time sticking to other classes but this one works for me. Fairfax county offers classes at their rec centers.

Me too! THe girl being interviewed on Fox 5, Destiny, lost 80 pounds! It's too much fun to stop, is why it works! I have lost 40 so far. Now if I could stop eating french fries, I could probably lose 10 more! haha!

Sorry to resurrect and old post, but I am looking for a Zumba class in DC. Zumbamama, do you have a recommendation for someone who wants to lose weight but hasn't done any type of workout in a year? I live in NW near Chevy Chase. TIA

hey 20:11, there is Zumba at DC Dance Collective on Wisconsin Ave taught by Elena. I think Wed nights, but you'll have to check their sched. She is easy to follow and great for beginners.

I teach at Joy of Motion in Friendship Heights, Tuesday evenings and Thursday mornings. Soon to add a new morning class. Beginners and out-of-shape people join every week and it's an awesome way to lose weight if you love to dance.

You can look up more classes on www.zumba.com. Just type in your zip.

Thank you so much for this info! I can't find anywhere on the Zumba site how much it costs. Can you tell me that?

at JOM, all drop in classes are $17. You can prepay 10 classes and get a discount so it's less per class. And you can go to any of the 150 drop in classes at any 3 JOM locations (jazz, samba, flamenco, ballet, etc). Their website is www.joyofmotion.org

I don't know the pricing structure at DC Collective. And you might check out City Dance, I think it is in Bethesda...I'm not sure if they have Zumba yet but they might.

Oh..and I think there are some at AU. I have no idea how much or what time though.
