City Paper Rant

Did anyone read this incomprehensible, inflammatory rant in the City Paper:

http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/articles/42028/against-adulthood/

Do you remember when the City Paper actually published investigative and researched cover stories?

I started to mock up all the offenses (literary and otherwise) in the dead tree version to mail to the editor but my highlighter ran out of ink.

I actually thought it was kind of funny.

I don't have my knickers in a twist over the content (although it was, quite frankly, the most poorly edited thing I've ever read). I'm more disturbed by why this passes as cover material for the WCP. I remember when the WCP used to have informative content.

Don't even get me started on this "ehm" newspaper? I don't even know what to call it...

Fact checking is not something they do - and their posts about downtown and the number of children living there are based on 2002 numbers.

Hey! Citypaper! Google is your friend.

Didn't WCP parent company go bankrupt? Maybe it's a new owner with trolling sensibilities.

WCP has been losing a lot of staff lately. Assuming this article is accurate, it has some interesting insight into the situation:

http://dcist.com/2011/12/dave_mckenna_leaves_city_paper_afte.php

It focuses on the departure of sportswriter Dave McKenna. However, it mentions the following:

"McKenna's departure also adds to the number of postions the City Paper needs to fill. The paper has been looking to hire a web producer, while the assistant managing editor postion has been vacant since the summer when Michael Grass (a former DCist editor) left to launch Huffington Post's D.C. vertical."

Jason Cherkis also left to join the HuffPost. The Dan Snyder lawsuit probably consumed a lot of attention as well.

The City Paper has gone the way of most newspapers. It provides mostly badly-written pap for those like the manchild who have time to read it much less attempt to write for it.

I wonder if this is Jeff and Maria's "new project" - taking over the City Paper?

And that's relevant to this story how? I thought it was hilarious.

Well, it appears it has much less resources than it once did. And as a journalist, I can tell you that will certainly lessen the quality of the product.
