We desperately need a vacation, well hold out until March- has anyone used VRBO? Sounds like an appealing option, cost effective too - some are located on resort properties. How do you know if the other party is trustworthy? Anyone tried VRBO?
I have used them twice. Once we rented an apartment in San Francisco for a week for our immediate family and the other time we rented a lake house on Seneca Lake in the NY Finger Lakes region for a family reunion. Had amazing experiences both times. As far as the other parties being trustworthy, I don't know. The first time, the owner had lots of testimonials and references and seemed just as cautious about us as we were about him. The second time, I was much more relaxed about it and it turned out fine--amazing, actually. You are taking a risk on some level, I guess. I see vrbo offers rental insurance. Might be worth the peace of mind.
I've used VRBO once for a townhouse at Rehoboth. We had a great experience. The owner was friendly and responsive.
I have used it a few times and had good expereinces on some and great ones on others. The best was a cabin near Skyline Drive where the owner had a problem at the last minute and instead arranged for a larger (also privately owned and not listed on VRBO) cabin less then a mile away from his and covered the additional expense.
I've used it twice to rent cabins in West Virginia for weekend get aways - both were great experiences. For the one cabin, they wanted a check for the rent and security deposit (which was returned) and for the second one, they took a credit card. I've heard VRBO insurance has lots of loop-holes and doesn't cover like you think it would. If you are concerned - look for someone who takes credit cards. In the US - I've only heard good stories. Oversees, I've heard mixed reviews.
I've used VRBO (domestic only) several times and have had nothing but good experiences.
Found a terrific place in Bar Harbor -- owners could not have been nicer, house was spotless and they left a lovely gift basked in the kitchen!
Used it for a home in Texas once (so cheap - and such a great location), and I am going to use for two holiday weekends soon in West Virginia and in Snowshoe. All have been great experiences (granted, on the last two, its just the interactions with the owners that I can comment on so far.) I make sure that there are plenty of pictures; I read every review; and once I contact the owner, I google the address to see where exactly it is and what's around it. But I think it's pretty legit overall.
I found out about it when my brother started renting out his condo in Hawaii. Have used it since for vacations in Yosemite area, Captiva and local beaches with good results.
I have used it several times. I read all the reviews carefully (and generally avoid listings where there are no reviews at all). I have found the owners to be helpful and obviously they know the drill very well.
We used in for a place in Colorado - spectacular and so reasonable we would never have stayed there were it not for the reviews. Read the reviews carefully and you will do well .....
We used it and liked it. However, a friend of mine just ran into a scammer and was scammed. Be careful wiring money.
We've used it several times and always had a good experience.
We used it for a rental on Martha's Vineyard and had a good experience.
Used it once to rent condo in Hawaii. Good experience
