Mike Huckabee

Would love to hear your insight on Mike Huckabee. I'm a democrat who would love to see the Republicans field a viable candidate. Do you think he will reconsider?

I don't think he will. He said that his heart was not in it. I believe him. It's a ten year commitment, between the election cycle and two terms of office, and if you don't have the stomach for it, things won't get any better just because your odds of victory go up.

Huckabee has a very attractive personality, and there are even policy positions of his that I agree with. But I think the thing that makes him most attractive is the fact that he is not up. As soon as he starts running, he'll turn off us independents and liberals with his fundamentalist positions, and the right wing with his economic populism.

It's too late. The Iowa Caucus is on January 3. There is no way that he could get organized for that in just one month (which includes Christmas). Ballot access for Missouri is already closed (Newt didn't get on, BTW).

Sorry Republicans. What you see is what you get.

Bet he's kicking himself, though.

As a breathing biped who can string 5 words together without sounding like a total moron, he's head and shoulders above the current GOP sideshow.

I have less of a problem with him than the others. Same level of fundamentalism as the others but WAY less derp on economics and race.

It seems to me that his comment about how Obama the Kenyan steeped in the Mao Mao rebellion doesn't have the same outlook on the world as the rest of us relegates him to moron or irredeemable bigot status. The only reason he doesn't sound as moronic as the rest of them right now is that he has mostly kept his mouth shut.

I don't think Huckabee is viable, but I disagree that it is too later for someone to enter the race. if a name like Jeb Bush entered, he would be too late for Iowa, Missouri, New Hampshire, but plenty of time for the big states later in the spring. Not going to happen, but it is possible.
