Give me a top list of your currently 5 year old boys favorite toys. I'm shopping for two five year old boys birthdays and want to get really special gifts. What do you recommend?

THANKS!!!

My almost-five year old is completely into TRANSFORMERS right now, so we're going to buy some of those for his birthday.

In the Lightning McQueen theme, they have a sort of racetrack that is a kind of pre-Hot Wheels set. Great for 5 year olds, but a little pricey for birthdays at $30.

Another really popular thing right now is ANYTHING Speed Racer. At all of the K-Mart, Walmart, Target, Toys R Us type stores, they have some great cars and even a helmet like Speed RAcer wears. They are a little less pricey than the Lightning racetrack - but the racetrack really is pretty great for 5 year olds if it's in your price range.

There's the open it with a "wow" factor and then there's the play with it forever toy. I recommend Lego. For boys, for girls.

1. power rangers (jungle fury is the latest) action toys, costumes
2. lego
3. playmobil, still a favorite
4. superhero action figures
5. you can never go wrong with nerf or another ball
6. transformers

other ideas...
if from grandparents or close grown up relative, consider cash register. they make some cool ones that talk and add, lots of learning, lots of fun. also there are some cool banks, if they may be starting to get allowances

if crafty,
tie-dye kit, super fun and fun for the whole family
concoction books (so they can make things like volcanos from stuff in your kitchen)
sculpey clay if they like to sculpt

if interested in electricity
*snap circuits, very cool and safe

if close and want to have outing together (like aunt and uncle)
*trip to see wall*e or kung fu panda
*outing to reston water mine for water slides

This is a good age to introduce simple games such as UNO, Blink, dominoes, go fish, war, etc.

I would recommend staying clear of games such as candyland, chutes and ladders, and hi-ho-cherry-oh, because they are TOO simple and quickly outgrown.

OMG. You just ragged on my most cherished childhood games...LOL! It's not like I was playing these in junior high, but I have really fond memories of these from early on!

Go Fish. Bingo. Transformers. A kiddie watch (my 5yr. old ds very interested in time). And yes, Speed Racer is a hit.

If you're near NW DC, Child's Play has tons of games, and their staff knows a lot about them and makes good recommendations.
