Has anyone traveled to New York City with their toddler? We are visiting friends next month, just Saturday and Sunday, with our 2 y.o. in tow. We thought about taking the train, but are we going to have to lug the carseat with us? I hesitate to get in a cab without a a carseat, but taking our bags, a stroller and a car seat seems like a lot for just 2 days. Think we could arrange a car service to pick us up at the train station that has a carseat installed? How do you get around NYC with a toddler? |
People get around NYC without a car seat by not thinking about it all that hard. If you are willing to get in a cab without a car seat, then do it (I was not). If you are not willing, then you have a few options: take the bus and the subway, buy one of those rolling carseats and schlepp it. Your child will LOVE the subway and the bus, so if your friends live in a well-served part of the city, that would be my choice.
If your friends live down town, hiring a car service would be a really weird way to go. I would distinctly NOT believe that they would send a car with an appropriate car seat. As for the train: the schlepping at this end is easy, since they let parents load first. |
try to goggle taxi with car seat.. i know there is a taxi that offers carseats but not sure what their name is.. |
We had our DS who is now 2 1/2 in Manhattan and to be honest we rarely took cabs as I am a believer of the car seat-my husband and I would get in spats on the street after taking the subway to get soem where and and then on the way homw he would want to take a cab and I wouldnt ...
There is a car seat carriage that we did use ( ithink the PP mentioned it) ...not sure if you have seen it or not but it costs about $200...and it is bulky...I have used many car services in NYC and none that I know of had or offered carseat services... Many parents with toddlers hop in and out of taxis every day with toddlers in NYC-I am against it but to be honest the cab drivers are pretty safe( (i know hard to believe it right?)..and maybe you can seat belt yourself in with your child in your lap...Once you get to the city try to stay on teh subways or walk..the weather looks like it will be nice and there isn othing better than walking in NYC!! Enjoy yourselves~~ |
Just do what the majority of NYers do, take the subway. There are car services that will pick you up with a car seat, but finding the car if you aren't familiar with Penn Station and its many exits is going to be a pain. |
