A Barry Dynasty in DC?

Move over, Kims of North Korea, Assads of Syria, Aliyevs of Ajerbaijan, etc. -- DC will soon have its own Great Leader and Dear Leader act! News reports today say that ex-Mayor-for-Life Marion Barry expects to be re-elected as a Ward 8 councilmember but serve only two years, then resign and install his son Christopher in the job. In Christopher's case, the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree. He was recently apprehended in Maryland after he jumped out a window to flee police who charged him with intent to distribute PCP and pot. Unlike his dad, DC's "Forever Mayor," Christopher hasn't yet served time in the slammer, however.

The sourcing on this story is very slim -- relying on the word of an admitted forger who is running against Barry. Barry denies it.

But, among the dynasties that can serve as cautionary tales, you left out the Bush father and son combo.

Speaking as an ardent Democrat, I would take the Bush dynasty any day over the current crop of political dynasties in DC: the Browns, the Thomases and, God forbid, the Barrys.

Humm, can you remind me which unnecessary war a Brown, Thomas, or Barry has lied to get us into? I think your perspective is a little off. BTW, Ron Brown was not involved in local politics. That's not really a dynasty. I agree that Thomas junior is not working out. As for Barry, I'll worry about it when there is a little more evidence that is is more than a campaign opponent's fantasy.

Marshall never held office himself, at least to my knowledge. But, he definitely played an important role in steering Kwame toward politics.

Do you seriously believe that their CM has that much effect on employment, or do you just like to rant? Barry has his faults, but he's no idiot!
