Turkey Trot?

Anonymous
I would like to participate in a Turkey Trot this T'Giving.

Where have you run one before? Did you like it?

Active.com's site is so lame at finding races...

Let me know what you recommend.

Thanks!!

Where are you? How far do you want to go?

Bethesda's 10K is good, but they don't allow strollers, which knocks it out for me lately.
Alexandria's 5M is also good, with lots of strollers and families. Probably my favorite.
Arlington's 5K is fine, lots of kids, lots of strollers, but I didn't like the route as well. There is a playground at the end, though.

Bethesda-CC has the Turkey Chase, a 10k/2k.

SOME (So Others Might Eat) does a 5k down on Haines Point. Great cause, and a pretty run.

I am in NoVa, but could go whereever.

I don't have my kids that day, so stroller free is fine.

I would prefer a NON hilly course.

I think the SOME 5k run is now at Freedom Plaza. Runners and also a lot of walkers!

The race calendar at www.runwashington.com is super helpful for locating running events...Have fun!

I usually do the Turkey Chase because its tradition, but I don't like the course as much since they had to stop going through the NIH campus and now have a long stretch along Wisconsin Ave. But there is still a good vibe - lots of families having fun.

Vienna's is fun, but huge.

The Alexandria Turkey Trot in Del Ray http://www.alexandriaturkeytrot.com/ is fantastic. Not hilly at all. Looks of good energy! Fun way to start the day!

Betheda Turkey Chase is fun but as a PP noted, the hill up Wisconsin in front of NIH is looooonnng. Also, I did it 2 years ago and then hosted Tgiving that evening. Took me about 3 days to recover from the exhaustion!

Go to RunWashington.com instead. Active.com is used as an online site to register for races.

As others have noted there are a ton in the area. In NoVa - there's the one in Vienna, Centreville, Arlington, Alex., etc.
