When do kids like fireworks?

At what age did your kids begin to like seeing fireworks shows? We were thinking of taking our almost 2y.o. but don't want a disaster on our hands. TIA!

An almost 2 yr old would probably be OK if you are far enough away that the noise isn't too loud.

DD loved them last year at 2.5. However, she did cover her ears.

I think my 2 year olds would HATE it. They HATE thunder, so I can't imagine fireworks being a good idea for them!

My 2.5 year old hates thunder too, but we've been preparing him for the fireworks for a few weeks now. We've told him that they sound loud like thunder, but they're not scary and they're very bright and colorful. Hope this works!

We saw the fireworks at Disney when DS was just under two. He giggled like I've never heard him giggle before--even though he had a full day, short nap, and it was way past his bedtime.

My son saw them the other night, we were far away enough that it was not loud. He paid attention for about 10min and then was off and running wanting to do something else. He just turned 2.

My son was terrified at 2.5 and 3.5 by fireworks. At 4.5 he found them tolerable if he covered his ears and if they didn't seem to be bursting right at him. This year, at 5.5, he says he wants to go to the Mall, so we'll see how it goes!

It think it really depends on the kid. My son is almost 5 and hates fireworks. We were at Disney this past spring -- standing outside the park watching the fireworks, covering his ears and he still thought they were too loud. If you do attempt the fireworks, I recommend bringing along ear plugs or head phones for your child in case he/she finds the noise disturbing.

My 6 yo hates fireworks. Last month, we didn't get out of Disney fast enough to avoid the fireworks and she started crying. She has always been very sensitive to loud sounds and freaks out about thunder.

I think you'll be fine, as long as you are far far away.

I think most kids like the pretty lights against the sky. What they don't like is the loud noise, and intensity of being up close. For example, if I were going to see the fireworks on the Mall, I would not take a 2 year old ANYWHERE on the Mall/Ellipse itself... I think its too close, and you're likely to have a scared child. But, if you could watch from an office top in Dupont/G'town, I think that would be perfect.

What time do the fireworks usually start? After sundown, I know, but how long after? 9ish?
