I just finished touring INOVA Alexandria in preparation for delivery next month. Would anyone be willing to share a bit about their experience there? I would appreciate it.
Also, my mother is anxious to be part of the process, and I would rather not have her in the delivery room. Looks like this might be a challange? Seems that anyone can knock on the door and come in after they are admitted on the floor. |
I delivered both of mine there and had a great experience both times. I found the nurses (especially in L&D) to be fabulous. The food is terrible...but I just had DH get me food from the food court/cafeteria downstairs instead.
As for keeping your mother out, I think that's going to be your job. I originally didn't want my mom there either. I was fine with her being at the hospital and hanging out in the delivery room until the action really started, but wanted her to leave and go to the waiting room (or family room, or whatever they call it) at that point. In the end, I decided that I really didn't care and told her I was fine with her staying. But she definitely was prepared to leave at any point that I wanted. If you really don't think she'll respect your wishes once she's there, I would tell her she can't come to the hospital until after the birth. |
I also had a good experience at Alexandria. Totally agree about the food--educate your husband about area take out places, for sure. If you deliver in the evening, by the time you're in your room you'll be starving and the cafeteria will be closed.
I don't know about keeping a family member out, but one of my girlfriends showed up at the hospital (with her husband and 1 year old) while I was still pushing--not sure if they thought we'd be "done" by then or what, but I was annoyed. So they do let people in to the waiting area. A nurse came in looking kind of confused as to why my friend was there and DH and I just said, no, don't want to see them, thanks. Can you just not call your mom--or is she coming from out of town to stay with you before the baby? |

I delivered at Alexandria INOVA back in December and I loved it - except for the food but I think that is any hospital frankly. My mom and husband were in the delivery room with me but we had sent my in-laws and dad home to sleep b/c it was 2am - but I was pushing an hour later so we had them all come back. The nurse from the desk called the room to say everyone had arrived and was it ok for them to come back, but I told my nurse no, that we would see them when we were done - and that was that. If you tell them what you want, they are there to help you and they do - good luck! |
