Why never been out of the country?

Something I struggle against, but it is a giant physical effort for me to fly. I am also very uncomfortable far away from home, even with sedatives.

Seriously? It IS expensive.

it doesn't have to be expensive. you all are talking europe [spain, london, paris], but what about eastern europe? what about asia or south america? you don't have to travel first world. i find third world travels much more interesting and the dollar goes further.

Good for you. Get yourself in a hostel in a third world country.

"People like that" ?? Besides being implicitly classist, it's silly to think that the occasional travel makes you unrelatable to the general population. I'm sure your daily life is just the same as most folks.

Probably not. And my travel is not occasional. If you aren't interested in having a global perspective, I'm not interested in you. It's not classist, it's about caring about the world around you.

Oh, my last trips were India, China, and Egypt. I hope my daughter inherits the same love of people of the world, and not sitting on her couch collecting "things"

What about the states? No interest?

I know. Those poors think dropping two grand for passports and tickets to London is some kind of huge expense.
Learning about China is not "experiencing" China. Big difference. I respect your opinion and desire. However, do not fool yourself in thinking that reading/visiting China are the same. Reading about it may be enough for you but not for me.
You see the China they want you to see

How many of you world travelers support the heinous government practices of those lands you so gladly give your tourist dollars to?

Maybe it is because I would rather/have spent my vacation money on

- have a family trip to bethany to the beach house that is in our family (paid for!).
-Take a trip to a nice hotel for Xmas with the kids in NYC (and go shopping/exploring NY with the kids)
-Go to my cousins damn destination wedding in LA and pay for 4 days in a hotel there and plane tix for 7.
-Take a road trip with a two girlfriends for 2 days Thelma and Louise style
-Pay a nanny for a 3 days/2 nights and go to a 5 star hotel in DC with my husband. Have the time without kids to do fun grown up things and fall in love all over again.

To me those things are more important than making sure we get out of the country. And if you cannot "fathom" that other people have different priorities then you really need to get a grip.

PS. I rather do those things than stand in line at customs.
