WSJ editorial criticizes Perry for crony capitalism

page A11 today. Discusses how the state venture capital fund he has created steers taxpayer money to ventures started by friends and political contributors. Says he has final say on the funding decisions and funding has been extended to his buddies "on appeal" over the objections of the panel that normally approves the investments.

That and praying for rain as an answer to drought...looks like we have a leader.

Seriously, it must be pretty bad if the WSJ opinion page sees it fit to write something bad about a Republican.

and what would your answer to drought be exactly? after rationing, water conservation, etc? it is an act of nature, after all.

Well, for one thing, he could have asked for federal aid back in April instead of posing as the spiritual leader of all Texans, and then finally going to beg for aid in July, which Obama promptly granted. I guess you have to do that when God flatly refuses to answer your prayers and makes the drought a lot worse in the meantime.
Oh, but asking for federal aid is against his principles, you'll say. No it isn't. Stimulus money is the way Texas plugged 95% of its staggering budget deficit last year, all the while Perry railed against it in public. And now that that money has dried up...
He could have gotten infrastructure spending to the stricken areas, like that Texan governor in the 50s (who also wasn't shy about asking for federal aid). Oh, wait, I forget, Republicans don't believe in infrastructure spending unless it's in Afghanistan or Iraq or on corporate jets for fat cats...

Well for one they can build water reclamation plants. They can also stop using fresh water for fracking. There is a lot of brackish water in Texas that can be used for that. Start regulating development, which Texas has never done. They can reduce sprawl and set limits on vegetation more suitable for the climate. The Texas drought problem is long term, and they know it, so all of these are reasonable considerations. These conditions may be severe, but Texas has had decade-long droughts before, and it already had a significant drought in 2007-2009. What has he done since then to prepare, other than to add his name to the list of climate-deniers?

nobody denies climate. they just deny the morons who think humans are the cause of any change. the changers never even mention the Sun for crying out loud. News flash...the Sun has cycles that drastically effects climate. We are still in a warming trend from the last ice-age. Climate is the one issue we have almost zero impact on and is the least important problem on the list right now. People who obsess over climate are as Rahm Emmanuel refers to the democratic base..."f***ing retarded".

The same climatologists that you ridicule regularly study and publish on the connection between climate and the sun.

Can you please tell us when we are supposed to believe them and when we are not? Are they only credible when they research things that fit your politics?

Native Texan, here. Ricky Perry has become a millionaire living on the Texas taxpayers' money. He has never had a job in the private sector other than hanging out on his daddy's farm for a few years, yet he is now a multi-millionaire thanks to shady land deals and other kick backs. Here is the real Ricky Perry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTqSp6r1QP8

That's a straw man. Sure humans are just one factor in climate change. BUT, we are the only factor over which we have control, so anyone concerned about the future of mankind on this planet had better pay attention to what we are doing.
