My grandmother says "bich" instead of "beach." She'd say to us when we were kids, "Ok, who wants to go to the bich?"

I have a hard time pronouncing the "th" sound, so unless I am being really careful, my "threes" always come out as "tree".

Does that make proposing threesomes awkward?

I have the same issue and I just started proposing orgies instead.

My husband has been known to call Dave & Buster's, Bert & Ernie's mistakenly.

My Aunt used to call Bepto Bappaw the Bizzels as a child.

I do not know any of those B words.

Nordstroms.

This drives me crazy and I see it a lot on this board. The store is called Nordstrom.

nuclear (I can't even HEAR the difference, it's that bad)
doesn't (I miss a syllable)
cement (there are two ways to say it and i"m not sure which is correct. I say C-mint so that must be wrong...it's sehMINT?)

I'm sure there are others...

This is all good.

Cement doesn't have any "mint" in it at all. The ment part is pronounced ment. And the stress is on the MENT.

Ah, but in the deep south it might be "mint" instead of "ment." After all, I know someone who was taught down there that pin and pen are homonyms.

Teacher here, can't help but correct that - They're homophones, not homonyms. Homonyns are spelled the same, but have different meanings.

I had a Russian friend who couldn't understand the difference between bitches and beaches. We'd have to ask if he was talking about the one with the sand or not...

You're funny. You say you're from the Deep South and have "no accent," but "cement" has two short e's in it... no short i's. It's MENT, not MINT. The short e sound, you know? Like ELEPHANT or EGGS. I lived in Georgia for awhile and it seemed people were incapable of saying the short e sound. "Do you have a pin, hon?" Do you want something to sew with or something to write with? Yeesh.

Around here, don't you love it when people say MURland instead of Maryland?

I'm from upstate NY, about to go on vacation up there, and can't wait to jump off the "dack" (dock) into the lake. Afterward I'll drink a "Popsi."

My former English department head (high school) used to refer to me as the EYEtalian.

She had a PhD.

I do! I also love it when they say 'Bawl-more' instead of Baltimore.

PP who says "Vaginia" really cracked me up. Hilarious!

DH says "homely" for "homey", and "full board" for "full bore". I've given up mentioning it, but it still drives me nuts!!
