is it unusual not to gain weight sometimes in 3rd tri?

hi, all.

I had my 34-week check this morning, and everything seems to be fine. I wanted to ask the doc, but I forgot... I haven't gained any weight between 32 and 34 weeks. I'm at 158. and at 30 weeks, I was 157. so I've only gained a pound in a month. I thought it was supposed to be more rapid than that.

my OB didn't mention anything about weight gain (or lack thereof), but I'm now kicking myself for not asking about it. she did say the baby "felt nice and big," though.

anyone else experience the same thing with weight?

OP again -- by the way, I've gained about 20 - 25 pounds so far with this pregnancy.

I think there were a couple of appointments in the third tri where I didn't gain anything either. On the other hand, I distinctly remember an appointment at the end of the second tri where I had gained 7 pounds! (And I didn't really do anything to change my eating habits! It was crazy!)

Your body will do what it needs to do. It may not be a linear progression of 1 pound per week or whatever. I think that the doctor is probably focused more on whether you have gained within a healthy range over the whole pregnancy.

I think our bodies gain weight in fits and starts. It may be that you gained more in your second tri and don't need to gain as much in your third. I agree with pp, the body knows what it needs to do. Congrats!

I'm 35 weeks. Had been gaining pretty steadily up until about 31 weeks and then didn't gain any wieght for about 3 weeks. Then last week I've gained about 5 pounds. I suspect a lot of it is water - my ankles and feet are huge.

I lost three with my daughtrer, but then again I had gestational diabetes, so I wasn't surprised I lost three on the severe diet. I am pregnant again and was reading What to Expect over the weekend, and it actually mentioned it is not unusual to lose a small amount of weight in the third tri as the baby grows and you have less amnionic fluid. However, if you are concerned, you should check with your doctor.

I gained 26 pounds with my first (I was at a healthy weight starting out) and didn't gain much in the third trimester. I gained steadily throughout the first two trimesters and then ended up not gaining for a month the third trimester, then slowing gaining again toward the end. I delivered before my due date (39 weeks 5 days, water broke naturally) and ended up delivering an over 7 pound baby so all was fine. Placenta was nice and healthy looking too!

I'm 34 weeks and last week I'd lost a pound and a half within a week, but the doctor didn't seem concerned.

I lost weight with my first, like some of the others. No problem unless it is a lot of weight. I lost about 3-5 pounds.
