Get this: Darling daughter climbs on Santa's lap and completely out of the blue changes her request from an orange kitty Furberry (which, of course I have standing by in the closet, and her 2nd choice Webkinz kitty) to a reindeer. Not just ANY reindeer, nooooo. She launched into a description of a brown reindeer with a white tail that you wind up and he walks. WTH??? I about DIED laughing. She's only 5 so I'm pretty sure she's not testing me - - but where on earth might I get so lucky as to find a wind-up walking reindeer?! Her grandparents almost wet their pants laughing about it.
So, if anyone has seen a wind up reindeer lately - - please, do tell! |

Don't know if this is exactly what your daughter told Santa she wanted but found this online.

Do a little sleuthing
Ask her where she saw a reindeer like that. If she says at a friend's house / childcare then you can talk to the people there and try to find out where they got it. If you do it right, she could still have no idea you were the one that got it. "Wow, santa was able to find that. I could've never done that!" sort of thing. Good luck! |
When I first starting reading your post, I thought your daughter wanted a REAL reindeer! While the wind up kind might still be very hard to find, at least it will be easier than finding a reindeer at your local pet store
|
| You don't need to buy her the reindeer. I'm sure she'll like the gifts you got her. I know you want to make her happy for Christmas, but kids get in their heads that they want something and it can change pretty quickly. I'll put money down that if you buy her a wind-up reindeer, it will be boring to her within 24 hours. She'll probably not pay attention to it in 10 or 15 minutes. |
| OP here: I asked her where she saw a reindeer like that after she told me that's what she asked Santa for. She laughed and said, "I never saw it before. But I knew Santa could maked it." Like I said, the whole thing is pretty funny to me - - I know there's no way I can find this for her other than some miracle on Ebay. I think the one on Ebay is broken and slightly used... I can't wait until she's older and we can tell her this story from her childhood! |
| I guess it depends how far down the Santa fantasy road you want to go. If I were you, at this point, I wouldn't spend a ton of time looking for something that may not exist. But if you want to acknowledge her request, you could always have in your pocket/stocking a note from Santa telling her why the requested reindeer didn't make it to her house (ran out of wind up parts, elf who makes wind up toys was sick....whatever). |
| We've had some bizarre Christmas requests over the years, too. When it is something that we can't (or won't) buy for the kids, we always have Santa leave a little note in their stocking, explaining that he has many, many children to buy presents for, and couldn't get everything on their list because he needed to save some toys for the other children, but that he picked the things he thought they would get the most use out of. Always good to teach them to keep their expectations reasonable...... |
| OP here: I found a reindeer Webkinz today! She will be thrilled with this and I'll put a little note in her stocking about not having any wind up parts this year. This will definitely be one of her fables I recount when we talk about her childhood! |
