3.5 year old daughter has had maybe one haircut in her life

barely shoulder length hair. Seems healthy, otherwise. She is a blonde, if that makes a difference.
Any reason I should be concerned that her hair just does not seem to grow at all? |

Some children grow hair very slowly. Mine do. They are boys, so they have had more haircuts because we keep it short. My 4 yr old really didn't have a good head of hair until 3. And most people think my 19 month old is younger because 1. he's small and 2. he's mostly bald and that makes him look a lot "younger".
I remember my niece didn't have a lot of hair either, and today she's a gorgeous 22 yr old that you would never thought was practically bald at 2. |

| My 3.5 year old has had her bangs cut a few times, but only one trim in the back, and that was very recently. Shoulder length, blond. She was bald for a long time. I assume that she will likely have thin, fine hair, as I do, but it never occurred to me to worry about it except for some general sympathy for her future hair styling challenges. |

thanks. to clarify, the OP (me) is the dad, and my wife is the one obsessing over this thinking she has a nutritional issue. I think she is nuts. My hair is also light and very thin and fine (could never have a convertible, would get to work looking like the Flock of Seagulls ...) ... |

Koreans say that if you shave their head when they're young, they get much more hair when it grows back. Urban myth? The only way to tell would be to include a control group - shave only half of the head.

The head shaving thing is also popular in the middle east - I wouldn't allow it on my two baldies.
DS got his first haircut when he was 2.5, and there wasn't much to cut. DD got her first haircut when she was 4! She now has lovely hair down her back at 7. Some kids do just grow hair more slowly than others. |

| My dd's hair is like that too. She is 3, and she finally got a first real hair cut at cartoon cuts last weekend. But the dr said it was totally normal. I wouldn't worry about it. |

| I was also wondering about the head shaving. I have one DD with gorgeous dark corkscrew curls and plenty of hair, and one blondie with fine, whispy thin hair, which, although cute, she will probably hate growing up (like I did mine). I was actually considering not necessarily shaving, but giving her a super short buzz cut at 1 or 18 months, but now, at just shy of three I think I missed the boat... I am wondering though... would that have helped? |
