I just saw that one of our favorite bands (Guster) will be playing at the Cape Cod Melody Tent when we are there on vacation this summer. Would it be absurd to think about going and taking our kids, ages 4 and 5, with us? They really like music, and it's pretty upbeat, so I'm sure they would enjoy moving and dancing and people watching in general. Show starts at 8, so I'm thinking we could probably get a couple hours out of them. Would you do it? |
No I wouldn't do it. It is an adult show and the adults there are probably enjoying a nice kid free night out so I would leave my kids at home. |
Go for it! It's not as if your kids will be so loud that people won't be able to hear the music. People will enjoy themselves no matter what. The only thing to be careful of is people getting drunk around the kiddos. |
Make sure to get good headphones to protect their ears. Sit further back away from crazies. And get them out of there if they start disturbing others. |
LOVE the Cape Cod Melody Tent! Have a great time and let the little ones rock it out! They will not be the only ones there. |
OP here - we're going to think about it, although I see they are also playing at Wolf Trap on Aug. 15th, so maybe we'll wait and do that instead (with or without kids). I'm sure either venue will have tons of families. I see people with young kids on the lawn at Wolf Trap all the time. |
I would. I would make them wear headphones to protect hearing. I know my 5 yo would LOVE to go see Vampire Weekend or MGMT. |
that seems like a pretty kid-friendly band. I'm not familiar with the venue, though - maybe wait for Wolf Trap? |
The only problem is that the Wolf Trap concert is on a Monday night, which is kind of tough, and I wouldn't want to keep the kids up late on a school night. We might do the Cape Cod one. Seems like a good venue -- kind of intimate. I believe it holds 2,500 people. |
OP here. In all my years vacationing on the Cape, I've never been to the melody tent. I'm trying to get a better idea of what the venue is like, but the website is only so helpful. Seeing that you've been there, can you tell me if there are areas where you can listen/watch the band besides in your assigned seats? I think we'd be more inclined to get tix if I know we can get up and move around with the kids but not miss the show necessarily. |
Do you tell your five year old that they're saying "who gives a CLUCK about an Oxford Comma?" ![]() |
