Formula most like breast milk?

Okay, I am in a true bind. I am leaving for unexpected travel Saturday AM (4AM) and my son who is almost 11 months old only drinks water, EBM or nurses. I just looked in the freezer and only have 24.5 ounces left and he is staying with the nanny tomorrow night too due to another extenuating circumstance. He won't drink formula (the nanny tried in February when we were all on vacation and my husband and I were going out to dinner alone).

Does anyone have any experience with this? I will of course try and pump like mad before leaving and FedEx milk back, but I'm still concerned.

HELP!!!

At 11 mos., he can do just fine for a few days on solid food for calories and water for hydration. The nanny may have to up his intake of both to make up for the bottles/nursing he'll miss, but he'll be great.

Maybe you could get some milk from a friend?

Everyone I know is done nursing, and I think that might be too much for me handle anyhow. And I'm not really ready to start weaning now, although it would be a good opportunity to do so I suppose.

You could try Nestle milk-based. It was the only one my DD would take in lieu of breastmilk. You could also call the ped and see what s/he thinks about offering cow's milk, since your LO is almost 1 anyway.

How long will you be gone?

Just give him cows milk...no big deal at 11 months. You may want to offer it to him a few times before your trip to get him used to it.

You are like 3 weeks away from the 1 year old. It seems silly to introduce formula and then switch over to whole milk a week or two later.

You can always continue to nurse & pump if that suits you but it's really no big deal to add in some whole milk to mix things up and to make your life easier for situations such as this or just being out and about for a day and not having to worry about NIP, etc.

At one year things get a lot more flexible. You can have your cake and eat it too.

Agreed - I would do cow's milk - or goat's milk is closer in taste to BM if he doesn't like cow's milk.

Agree with PPs. Goat's milk or full-fat cow's milk. It's actually recommended now you don't wait to one year to introduce.

Excellent, thank you.

Oddly enough this AM I gave him a sippy cup with some cows milk (cold) and he was happy as can be, and had previously had a little with cereal so I don't think we will have an allergy issue.

I do think we'll stick with the EBM for him at least in the evening while I'm gone (five days) and hope that it all works out.
