acupuncture?

Is anyone considering using an acupuncturist during labor for pain management? I'm planning on going the Bradley method route (no epidural) and have heard of women using acupuncture. And I'm wondering if it might help for some of my discomfort now (33 weeks). Any recommendations? I'm in Alexandria, but I imagine I might have to venture farther out to find someone who does acupuncture specifically with pregnant women.

Just a heads-up : I asked my acupuncturist if she can help during labor and she said most hospitals don't allow outside acupuncturists to practice in their buildings.

But maybe you're doing a home birth, so that's moot.

I have used it for home health visits and at the dentist. I guess it depends on the hospital....the anesthesologists may feel like their toes are being stepped on if you bring your own natural pain management. And since most hospitals here don't acknowledge the benefits of acupuncture, they probably won't permit something they don't know alot about.

My acupuncturist works with pregnancy/fertility... www.earleyacupuncture.com
But she is DC/MD.

A friend of mine is an acupuncturist and she has worked in at least one local hospital during a delivery. I know that the particular OB was very supportive and has since recommended her to others. She is based in Alexandria. Her name is Linda Wentz, 202-821-7323. Good luck!

OP here. Thanks for the rec! I'll have to check on whether the hospital allows this--but I think it does.

Hi,
I saw this post and felt that I should add my comments on Njemile Carol Jones. I was a patient of hers until recently and would NOT recommend her.

She was fine when I first started seeing her, but became increasingly defensive whenever I asked any questions, and her manner was downright rude on more visits than not. She seemed to not want to be bothered with anything I had to say and only wanted constant praise for her "difficult job". She even went as far as to tell me that I had made her job very tough since I had come in for one visit on the verge of tears due to a family emergency. No concerns what so ever for me, just bothered that she had to deal with it.

In addition, she is consistently late....15-30 minutes every single time.

I have used her! I Why don't hospitals learn more about it if it is benefitting so many people? If they have to keep on technology and drugs, why can't they keep up on acupuncture? As the wife of a holistic practitioner, it is mind-boggling how much they ignore people like my DH, when I have seen with my own eyes how much my DH has helped people be free of their pain. Including me!
