Whole Foods........... Made In China

Whole foods is interested in making money (which is a fine business model). Whole foods couldn't care less about the planet. Thus, they are happy with customers who care that their own children eat organic, but who don't care about anyone else's children or the environment.

And, the CEO is insane!!! Read his blog.

I find this post to be more than a little bit of a generalization, as well as unfounded. I buy locally and organically -- the two are not mutually exclusive -- as much as I can. But I do part of my shopping at Whole Foods. The CEO of Whole Foods is a different kind of guy, yes. But you have no basis for statements like, "Thus, they are happy with customers who care that their own children eat organic, but who don't care about anyone else's children or the environment." The CEO is the only CEO of a major corporation to cap his salary and compensation in relation to other employees' salaries. We're talking a cap of under $500K in total compensation. Compare that to the CEO of Wal Mart, whose compensation is over $15 million annually. Most WF stock options are held by rank-and-file employees, not management. And Whole Foods is the largest corporation in the world to use wind power exclusively, which is a major boon for the environment.

There are a lot of things the corporation could do better, and it is a corporation. But I find it pretty unhelpful to denigrate the one major grocery chain that actually does a lot of things right.

I'm not so sure of this. I eat local first, organic from accross the world second. I am very concerned about how my decisions impact the world. I think people's attitudes are trending this way as well. If it wern't the case, this thread would get no attention.

The CEO of Costco also caps his salary relative to their employees' salaries. I've noticed they seem to be carrying more organic products lately. Curious, anyone know where their stuff comes from? I haven't looked at their labels before but will next time.
