Classes, Workshops, Camps, and Playgroups
| Help! My DS will be ending kindergarten in June and I'm new to this. Both hubby and I work in Arlington, live in Alexandria near Duke Street. Sometimes long hours at work so I can't drive to far there/back for camps. I think he'd enjoy most camps... sports, cooking, arts, etc. Trying to find one or two places for the whole summer so the routine is the same. Thanks in advance for suggestions!! |

Pinecrest Summer Pavilion in Annandale has a ton of different types of camps. Cooking, drama, arts, sports - check on website because so popular lots are already booked. They also have aftercare ...

| Also look at the St. Stephens/St. Agnes summer school programs. The Torpedo offers art camps, too. |

Glad you asked! flyburst is now expanding into Arlington. We are a sort of "Craig's List" for youth sports and fitness programs, camps, events, etc. You can register for free and browse our listings. We have everything from gymnastics to dance, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, and much, much more. You can register at http://www.flyburst.com, takes just minutes. Good luck.
The flyburst Team PS Make sure to set your preferences - ages, type of sport/activity, etc. We will send you a notification when a listing is added to our postings that meets your needs. |
Pinecrest is way too far away from OPs area to be driveable during rush hour. There hours are not conducive to working parents. OP - most private camps do not have good hours for working parents. Your best bet is through the county. Other places in Alexandria are Burgundy, Browne, St. Stephens/Agnes |
| I suggest the Arlington County camps or perhaps the Arlington YMCA camps. There is a good gymnastics camp through the Arlington YMCA, but commute will depend where you work in Arlington. The gymnastics camp is quite popular so contact the Y soon to get put into their registration lottery. |
I think your company spams this blog a little bit too much. You respond to nearly all comments that parents have! BTWY, I have just registered and logged in to your site and was very DISAPPOINTED--could not find much, and every time I would select my choices, I would get a different search result... |

Levine School of Music has camps that run for 3 weeks. It is in the Westover area of Arlington.
Knights of Columbus has weekly camps. My 5 year old will go there for 2 weeks this summer. |
OP here, thanks for the suggestions. I work in Crystal City and live right off 395. I'll google a few of those places and see what comes up. I'd like to keep to 1-3 total camps all summer long if possible. Drop off around 7:45=8:00 and pickup at 5:00. So I guess that means paying for before and after care

| Saint Stevens Saint Agnus school has a nice camp-and before and after care |
YMCA Alexandria is in Del Ray, if that works for your commute. http://www.ymcadc.org/camps/alexandria/Pages/default.aspx |

Great option for you would be The Homeroom Annex located in the Landmark/Lincolnia area. Specialize in classes for preschooler 2-6.

My daughter went to Everwonder camp yesterday at Nottingham School (Arlington had a teacher work day) and she had a great time. She learned about Ancient Africa. The staff seems particularly strong. Most are "retired" teachers who have young children at home and are now SAHM's.
They have camps in Arlington this summer. We are going the last week right before school starts back up again. The website is www.everwondercamps.com |
| Congressional Camp in Falls Church starts at age three and has transportation service thru arlington and alexandria. The 5 year old program includes daily swimming, pony rides and many other activities. www.congocamp.org for more info |
| I second the YMCA Alexandria. Right off of US 1 just south of Potomac Yard. Hours are 9am to 5pm (love that they go to 5!), with before care starting at 7am and after care ending at 6pm. My older DD has loved their camps the past two summers, and my younger DD is looking forward to going this summer! Great selections available and the two week Learn to Swim camp is awesome! |
