I'm certain I have it after reading a book about it. I really just want the meds and I don't have the time, patience, or motivation for therapy (yes, I know the combo is ideal). Will a psychiatrist be down with that? Can you recommend someone near Annapolis? I'm not even going to seek treatment until I'm finished breastfeeding. |
What is adult DD? Not familiar with this abbreviation. |
Oh sorry adult ADD |
Typically psychiatrists treating ADHD are dealing with the medication aspect of the disorder, not providing therapy. For that, you go to a therapist. I don't have any recomendations in the Annapolis area but I can tell you that my DH recently found a medication/dose/combo that works for him and the difference is amazing. He's also been working with an ADHD coach who isn't really telling him anything I haven't already but hearing it from a third person seems to make a difference. Whatever. The key for him (us!) has been rigid sleep hygene. Sleep deprivation will totally negate the benefits of the medication so before you start taking the medication, make sure you're getting regular and sufficient sleep. I know how hard that it with a baby but do the best you can - good luck! |
Thanks! That is what I was hoping...that I could JUST see a psychiatrist for meds, and not a psychologist for therapy. |
The psychiatrist will ask you about your sleep, eating habits, things that are impacted by the ADHD, etc. That information is needed to see if you have any comorbid conditions (anxiety, depression, etc.) and to determine how the medicine is working. It is NOT therapy. |
