Guess what?! Electric Company is coming back!

I wonder if it'll be as good as it was in the 70's...

Hey You Guys! 'Electric Company' Is Coming Back

The Sesame Workshop, the company behind PBS’ “Sesame Street,” is bringing back its 1970s staple “The Electric Company.” The series, targeted for children ages 6-9, promotes literacy and aims to interest viewers in the joy of reading.

Production for the series is scheduled to begin Tuesday on location in New York and in a Newark, N.J., studio. Weekly episodes will start to air in January on PBS Kids.

The show’s new format will encompass interactive online elements and community-based activities across the country, in addition to adapting a more contemporary style.

“Our goal with ‘The Electric Company’ is to reach the kids who are struggling, and who might think that reading isn’t cool or isn’t useful,” said Scott Cameron, director of education and research for Sesame Workshop. “We hope to do that by creating compelling and high-quality television, Web and outreach materials.”

Writers for the new incarnation include Willie Reale (“A Year With Frog and Toad”), Jeff and Craig Cox (“Blades of Glory”) and Jerome Hairston (“Law & Order: Criminal Intent”). The show’s musical directors are Chris Jackson, Thomas Kail and Bill Sherman, all from Broadway musical “In the Heights.”

Yay!

Now all we need is:
Zoom (who speaks Ubbie Dubbie besides me?),
The New Zoo Review, and
Sid & Marty Kroft everything (I personally could not get enough Land of the Lost or HR Pufnstuff!!!)

I think I will be buying these dvd's for my kid. The stuff on tv now is so crappy and violent

That's great. I remember that show from my childhood.

And yes, where is Zoom now that I need it? It was on when my 7yo was a toddler and I wish it were still on now.

oh, man, it couldn't possibly be as good as back in the day. way better than sesame street, for sure.

as far as zoom goes, according to this site, it's still supposed to be on. is that not true? I saw it a few years ago, before I had DS, and I must say it was much better when we were kids.

15:34 poster here....I almost forgot about Big Blue Marble....

Yeah, there is NO WAY today's shows can compete with when we were kids. Nuh uh, no chance....(um Kojak anyone? hahaha! Get Smart? Batman & Robin? Wonder Woman? The Bionic Man/Woman? The Carol Burnett Show? Sonny & Cher? Phil Donohue? Dinah Shore? Lawrence Welk? The Osmonds? Ok, I am getting a little crazy here....but I do sometimes pine for simpler, campier, days.....)

I do remember catching Zoom a few years ago (could have been 10? Who knows....) but I remember thinking it was not at all like what I remember. Had more of a Disney/slick feel to it then I remember from my rough and tumble youth....)

OMG, so I'm not alone in missing the shows of my childhood!! Thank you!

HR Puffinstuff! Who's you friend when things get rough?

PP here. Uh, that was supposed to be "your friend" not "you friend." Mommy needs an Electric Company grammar/proofing refresher, clearly.

Oooooooooooh! Good one, 3-2-1 Contact.....I forgot about that one....

(of course, by 1980 I was 12 and getting a little "too cool" for shows I thought might be for "kids" ha ha! ....but I am most definitely very not cool now and really miss these shows. We are going to buy whatever we can find online for our little boy. But I do kind of like SpongeBob.....)

Remember "the Bloodhound Gang"?!! I still remember the song, "Whenever's there's trouble, we're there on the double, we're the Bloodhound Gang.....if you've got the crime, we've got the time, we're the Bloodhound Gang....."
