How did u find in-home daycare?

Please help! I have been looking and looking for a good in-home daycare provider in NW DC/Chevy Chase for my 2 yr old son, starting immediately.
If you use in-home daycare - how did you find them? Am I missing a resource? I have been lurking on these boards and have only seen the same 2-3 listings over and over (and have spoken to them). I have used Craigslist to no avail, and the dc.gov search tools are mostly childcare centers that have HUGE waitlists.... I am in a bind b/c I unexpectedly need to go back to work in Jan or maybe even sooner... I really need Mon - Fri FT care and cant use a nanny b/c I will be working from home sometimes, so it looks like in-home daycare is my main option for quick coverage... Ack - any suggestions that I am missing??? Thanks for your help! |

you could do a nanny share where the nanny always goes to the other person's house. Some people may prefer it that way.
In VA I used Infanttoddler.com to find mine. You could call them to see what resources they suggest for DC & Maryland. I also asked every single mother I knew at work about how they found their daycare and got ideas that way. I wasn't shy about asking people in parks or playgrounds or wherever I was talking to a parent in a public place. Also check the bulletin board of your local library, or other mom's groups online in your neighborhood. Hope this helps. |

I saw your posting and am also in the same situation. I have 2 yr old twin boys and it's virtually impossible & beyond frustrating to find 2 open spots. I was a SAHM until recently (the main factor was the child care issue) and am now transitioning back to my former job, but on a pt basis. If you are interested in a nanny share, please let me know. I work downtown 2-3 days a week, but full days so only need childcare anywhere from 16-30 hrs a week. | If you know anyone who works at NIH, they can provide a listing of daycare centers and home daycares within 5 (?) miles of NIH. We found our's in Bethesda through this list and it has turned out beautifully. I don't think any of them are Chevy Chase, but is Bethesda too far? |
