Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| We would like a bassinet for our bedroom and are looking for recommendations. I saw a thread a few weeks ago where many people preferred a co-sleeper to bassinet. I'm a worrier and would rather have a baby safely in it's own space but nearby, so I'd think I'm going to go with a bassinet. But, a lot that I've looked at have lots of frills and ruffles, which I don't want. Any ideas or recommendations? Thanks! |

I'm looking for the same thing so will watch this thread - I like this one
http://www.overstock.com/Baby/Eddie-Bauer-Rocking-Wood-Bassinet/5033926/product.html but when I sent it to DH he said "it looks like something a girl (we're having a boy) would sleep in 100 years ago." |
|
I like the Eddie Bauer one, too, but the reviews I've found online have been lackluster. And I can't find the weight limit anywhere. I know use will be limited, but if it's only rated to 15 pounds we'll probably pass.
We've got a PNP w/bassinet and are borrowing a mini co-sleeper, but the EB style appeals to me because we're in the midst of renovating our house -the room that will be the nursery will be part of a new addition - and I'm a little bummed we won't be able to set anything up until our baby's 7-8 months old. But a small bassinet like this would fit in the space we've got for now and is inexpensive enough to justify for temporary use. So - a longwinded way to say I too am looking for a modern, sleek bassinet and hope someone has recommendations! |

For some reason, neither of my kids ever wanted to sleep in a bassinet. Not sure why. We had one only to give it away practically unused.
We also had a PNP with the bassinet, and was great. Both babies loved it, I suspect because on ours, the bassinet part had a little 'dip' in the middle, so the babies felt kind of tucked in and snug. I bet you can pick up a practically new bassinet on CL for pennies, since I'm sure I'm not alone on their babies rejecting to sleep in one. |

I've included a link to the bassinet I choose. It was very sturdy, and my son slept well in it. It saved space that was limited at the time, because it served as a bassinet, changing table, and moses basket. The baskets at the bottom were also great for storage, and easy access to extra clothes during night time changes those first few months!

| It's expensive, but the Stokki Sleepi is amazing. It doesn't look like a traditional bassinet because it's round. It comes in natural or dark wood . . . I think they make it in white now, too. It's very gender-neutral, and you can get a little bumper with a modern boy pattern for it. We used it for about 5 months. Then, if you like, you can buy the kit to turn it into a crib, then a toddler bed. The crib/ toddler bed are small so good for small spaces. You can buy it at many of the big on-line baby stores, and I think that Land of Nod also carries it. |
| I think the Arms Reach Co-sleeper works as a free-standing bassinet. The style of it appeals to me - not so ruffly. |

look at the kolcraft one on diapers.com. my friend bought it and its wooden and rolls and not frilly at all. just functional and has clean lines. nice storage space underneath.
we have a satin-skirted froo-froo one that we got for our dd 2 years ago that we;re re-using for our son. |

Op here. Thanks for the input. We're thinking either the Kolcraft three-in-one or getting a cosleeper but using it as a bassinet. Anyone else use the cosleeper primarily in the bassinet mode? The mini cosleeper goes up 25 pounds (I think) so it would work longer than a bassinet that only goes to 15 pounds.
Thanks! |
Tell your DH that 100 years ago, boys wore dresses until they were 3 years old He needs to lighten up!

We had this one for DS but didn't like it. The combination of the fabric type of the canopy and the vinyl pad made for very little air circulation. Baby got unusually hot in it. Plus the side noise/vibrating thing was overkill. Sounded awful. Didn't actually vibrate anything. We'll probably get the Land of Nod bassinet for #2. |
| Anyone try to the Fisher Price Zen one? |
| After researching and talking w/friends (and friends of friends), we went w/the Stokke system -- converts from bassinet to crib to bed to chairs. |
