Wii or home gym equipment

Does anyone find the Wii workouts interesting enough to really get fit on or lose weight. Also what has been a really good home fitness machine investment

IMO, Wii is a waste for fitness. It's really more fun than fitness.

Join a gym to get out of the house, more home gym equipment ends up not being used the same as a Wii, it wears off after a few months and collects dust

get an elliptical for home

I agree on the elliptical. We have a wii too and I used it last winter before we had the elliptical to mix up with running but I found it to not be a serious enough workout - too much start and stopping of exercises to really get in a groove and not enough difficulty.

You will only lose weight on Wii if you are seriously out of shape. I would not consider it exercise, but if you are currently doing nothing, then it is better than nothing.

From experience, unless you have incredible self-discipline and are very self motivated, I do not see home exercise equipment of any sort useful, except as a clothes hanger. The latest gimick or expensive purchas is not the key to being in shape. Push-ups, sit-up, planks, and running shoes will cost a lot less and accomplish more.

I use Wii during the days I don't want to go to the gym. You can get diffferent tapes to challenge yourself. The one I especially like focuses on a bit of cardio, upper and lower body workout (but you can change your focus every time), so it gets me sweating more than I do at the gym. You can also use dumbells and stability ball while exercising with Wii too. So I would definitely get Wii ver gym equipment - it's more fun and you can alternate your workouts for better results.

What kind of work outs are you doing at the gym? Taking my 90min spin class, I have sweat dripping off places I never knew could sweat. I have to bring, not A waterbottle, but 2. I then head over to the weights are start my upper body. We have a Wii fit as well, but that is nothing more than entertainment with some movement thrown in.

I usually do cardio on a treadmill or an elliptical trainer plus strength training. I don't have endurance for 90 minutes spin classes and I don't compare this type of workout to Wii.

I use My Fitness Coach rather than Wii Fit. It has some good workouts and you can choose the level of difficulty too.

using the Wii in addition to Netflix isn't a bad option to going to a gym, especially in winter months. i run in the summer but just never can find the motivation in the colder weather to get up at 5 am to go running. *shrug* i use the Wii throughout the year. if you have the Fit Plus, you can put together workouts. yes, there is a stop and go feeling in changing up workouts, but honestly, that's not a horrible thing. especially if you've got small kids you want to glance into the next room and check on. or take a swig of water. anyway, i use Netflix to stream workout videos through the Wii. just something else to think about.
in the past, i've owned several home gym items. treadmills, elliptical machines, rowing machines, a bowflex, Tony Little's Gazelle, blah, blah, blah. i absolutely lost interest in those after a short amount of time. being able to switch things up on the Wii gives me all i would ultimately get out of an expensive gym membership (access to different workouts and switching up routines for the sake of staying interested).

indeed. it's not the same as having some resistance from a gym machine for some of them. but yoga? pilates? same as a class at the gym if you know what you're doing already or can easily follow direction. some of the workouts don't require much more than your own movements anyway, like doing a series of different types of crunches. anyway. check it out. see what you think. if you already have Netflix, you can log on and just search "workout" and tons of stuff will come up that can be added to your instant queue and then played through the Wii.

which one do you have at home. i use the life fitness one at my office and the ones i tried at sears didn't seem so sturdy in comparison. the pedals also seemed too far apart.

New poster here. I have home gym equipment and ONLY by the life fitness brand. It is THE most sturdy, professional grade stuff you can buy. THe stuff at Sears and retail sporting goods stores is very flimsy.

Lifefitness stuff will set you back a few thousand a machine, but worth it if you really want to invest in something you use regularly. I also have a husband who is a body builder and 250lbs, so we have to have something that he can use and not crush! Lifefitness is the only brand that can truly support his weight
