I love St. Luke's Day School. The director and teachers are great, very caring, very open and responsive to parents' concerns. Nice balance between play and "academics" (learning about seasons, letters, colors, etc.). They just renovated their classrooms. They have music classes and music+movement classes, even for the little kids, and as they get older they have a number of other activities you can sign up for in the afternoons. Tuition is also very reasonable. We had a spot, switched to another school closer to our house for convenience, and after visiting that school went back to St. Luke's.

Are any of these near the King Street Metro?
We will be moving in 2011 and I want a preschool for my 2.5 yr. daughter.

Frog Pond Learning Center - we love it there! They offer part-time care but it is a full-day program.

We love The Little One Academy at http://alexacademy.com/

My daughter started here at 18 months and has been attending for one year. This is an actual school --not daycare--program that is from 9-12 one to five mornings a week. Ms. Rachel and Ms. Terri both bring a portfolio of young child education skills and a background suited to prepare any kid for the next step in their educational path. Many of the children take their next step at 3.5 to 4 years of age to the most elite preschools in the area with ease due to their great early foundation in music, art, science, and language.

At 2.5 my daughter knows her alphabet letters in order and their sounds. She can recognize them out of order too. She can count to twenty and to 100 by tens, and can count and sing a few songs in Mandarin(although I can't guarentee the accuracy). She is reading about 25 sight words and asks to use the potty(with no regularity). Her vocabulary and ability to synthesize information is in good part due to all of the attention and love shown to her at The Little One Academy by the owner Ms. Anne, and her teachers.

Good luck in your quest to find the right spot.
