Nanny search question

Is is okay when searching for a nanny to work, that you ask that they don't bring their own children to work? I know it is tough for folks to find child care and I don't want to be a pain...but I would just rather that they not.

I think the assumption is that they would not bring their children to work. It's a rare exception that allows a nanny with children to bring her own kids.

No nanny candidate should assume they're bringing their children to work. This would be pretty unusual and I wouldn't go for it either. This issue never came up once when we were looking for a nanny.

I think it's okay to put it in your ad if you feel really strongly about it. I dealt with the issue on a case by case basis. One thing we did decide, though, was that if a nanny brought her own kid, it became a nanny share and therefore, the rate we paid would be less than if she didn't bring her kid. Turned out to not be an issue because the nanny we found doesn't have kids.

Oh, I like the nanny share idea...thank you!

you should put down you do not want the nanny to bring their children with them. In Virginia there is some law saying you cannot ask them if they have children though. I haven't found it but heard an agency tell me that. I see many ads saying no other children are allowed.
