+1

+1-not sure is what the merit situation is but this place is a gem

To be clear, was not lol at St. Olaf, it's a good school, just thought it was so random for a small school in the rural farm area of Minnesota to pop up on this board. It's known around here, just didn't realize it's making headway in the DMV. That's cool.

I know several musically talented, smart students in Atlanta, GA who have gone there and loved it.

-male
-public high school with IB program (will be IB diploma candidate)
-high-rigor course load
-A-/B+ grades (bright but a little disorganized)
-predicted best SAT score around 1350
-needs significant merit aid (can't afford full tuition but not eligible for much/any need-based aid)
-interested in biological/environmental sciences, not sure exactly what major
-wants low-key environment, not interested in "rah-rah" vibe or joining a frat
-doesn't want a super competitive atmosphere but does want to feel appropriately challenged academically

He has a couple of decent public options but would like to explore private colleges as well.

Thanks!

Oxford college (LAC affiliated with Emory) - easier to get into and gives merit.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Skidmore gives significant merit aid.

Was also thinking St. Olaf, if the location works for you.

St. Mary’s in Maryland was a good suggestion as well.

Quite a few of these schools listed do not offer much merit. This is a helpful website in comparing merit aid:

There are a ton of good schools that give merit in Ohio. Ohio Wesleyan, Wooster, Kenton, Denison. Also check out Centre and Transylvania in Kentucky.

Wooster, Beloit, St Olaf all sound like good fits.
