Backpack size

What size backpack do you like for 3rd/4th grade? We also need to do packed lunch - do your kids clip lunch to the backpack or carry it separately? Mine is so disorganized I’m worried he would leave the lunchbag behind a lot

Is LL Bean still the go to backpack brand or is Lands End just as good? LE is certainly cheaper!

My kids always put their lunch inside their backpacks.

If you want quality, do not buy a LE backpack. They are cheaper for a reason.

No spills from lunch being in backpack? Or if the lunch box goes in a lunch bag that’s put into the backpack, how big does that backpack have to be? I know I am overthinking here, but nothing seems to be available in person anymore, so I have to order it online.

I am team LLBean -they last forever. I like the original backpack through 5th grade and then the deluxe backpack middle school and up. If you don't buy those, they have good dimensions which will help you compare to other brands. Most of the time the lunch box goes in the backpack. -only carried if needed.

They had a version of this backpack and lunch box from late elementary through high school (youngest is now a senior and still carries the backpack):

Water bottle went/goes in the backpack side pocket so no spills.

we went with the original LL Bean backpack. It’s a great size fits his lunchbox, folders, and a jacket with room to spare, but doesn’t look huge on him. He puts the lunchbox inside the main compartment and we haven’t had any issues with spills. Water bottle goes in the side pocket. It’s held up really well so far, even with daily use and being tossed around.

Largest size LLBean or State Backpacks largest size - they have them at TJMaxx for less but check those out.

I just got my 2nd grader (who is very tall) the LL bean deluxe Book Pack in the large size. I expect he will have it for a while. Lunch goes inside the bag, water bottle in the side pocket.

This is us too, though we actually did the tiny backpack for K & 1, then switched to original in 2nd.

My middle schooler might be the only kid she knows who still shoves her lunchbox in her backpack, but she prefers it that way the deluxe manages to fit it.

I just bought my 4th grader a new Lands End XL backpack. His old one was also LE and is still in good shape after 3 years — he just needs more space. My younger son will probably get another few years out of it.

We don’t have any LL Beans, but I do still have mine from school circa 1999! Not sure if the quality is still that good!

The largest LL Bean size looks huge looking online at least. I’m a petite adult and I think it would be too big for me, let alone a child.

Fits my 5'6" 8th grader just fine

Now me, at 5' flat? Not so much.
