Beltway crash - why unavoidable

There's already a thread about this. The woman driving the Scion stopped because she was trying to get out of the express lanes.

She won the Darwin award. Thankfully, no one else was killed, but their lives are also irreparably affected by her decision.

If you stop on a highway because you're afraid to miss your tun/exit/lane, you are too stupid to have a driver's license.

When people make an error in getting on or off an exit or hov lane, they need to keep going and turn around at the next exit. I’ve seen so many idiots miss an exit and come to a full stop, back up and try to still make the exit.

The lady here made a deadly error. Sad for her family and the other driver.

Where is other thread?

This is something I have drilled into my teen drivers. Stay frosty.

The Tacoma plowed into the Scion which was stopped on 495 in the express lanes. Was it stopped randomly or was there traffic? Why was it deemed unavoidable — even on freeway you have to be mindful of cars stopping ahead of you? Anyone understand better?

This reminds me of this crash in Ohio where the video has been making the rounds for months. I think it illustrates why some crashes on an interstate at normal speed can be unavoidable when someone stops in the middle of traffic for no good reason.

Oh my gosh, this is awful! I am going to make sure to show this to my 17yo as a lesson. :*(

I agree with this, but I try to keep a safe following distance on the beltway and 270 and invariably, other cars just see it as an opening. Which is the opposite of the point.

I think they just mean the other driver tried to stop.

I would think that everywhere has cameras on the beltway but I mean, if she stopped suddenly in traffic for no good reason, depending on the sight lines and other traffic maybe it was not the truck’s fault they couldn’t stop. Like if cars were swerving around her, etc etc.

This happens so frequently. I will never understood how someone can think this is remotely an acceptable or ok thing to do, ever.
