Landon's New Head Of School: The Decision is In!

Anonymous
Landon just announced it's next Head of School (to begin his tenure on 7.1.2026). The appointment is, Dr. Andrew Martire from The Tatnall School. He looks like a good fit, lots of experience (most importantly in the all boys space). We're excited, curious what other people think.

At the surface level looks to be a solid hire.

His background fits the Landon mode. Graduated from Princeton where he played football, has experience leading at all boys school.

Looking forward to meeting him and his family in the coming months.

Looks like he bounces around a lot of schools. His fourth head of school position.

Not uncommon for heads to get restless. Especially not concerning if subsequent schools are an ascension. Landon is a prestigious opportunity and likely pays a lot more money than Tatnall. Best of luck to him and Landon.

Concerning that he seems to overvalue sports.

Perhaps I missed where his "overvaluing of sports" is shown in his background? He played football at Princeton. Did I miss something?

Moving back to the area to be closer in mind when Gilman job opens up?

Jealous much?

The haters are already hating on a guy whom they have never met… par for the course on here.

Congrats to Landon.

Sounds like you nailed it. Not sure how public opinion (outside of current or prospective families) is even valid here. How toxic has DCUM become? Sounds like Landon likely made an excellent choice for their school community.

Look, there are great schools in the DC area. They all have great qualities and not every quality matches every family/student. We should be happy that there are excellent choices. TO the person who said "sounds like a fit" in terms of a focus on athletics... were/are you a Landon parent or alum? I'm not sure that Landon is some powerhouse athletic institution that has a focus on athletics above everything else. They compete and I imagine they have their share of success in athletics, as does Prep, Sidwell and any number of schools. I guess, by living in a world where most posts are masked by the popular "anonymous" default screen name, it's a lot easier to reply with a courage that escapes most posts, were a name to be required.

Jealous much?

That doesn’t even make sense. What do you think I am expressing jealousy of? The new head? The athletic program? What a weird response. Landon’s a great school. My brother went there and he’s just about the best human I know.

It’s a statement of fact that Landon has a strong athletic focus. They require all the teachers to also be coaches. It seems like a new HOS with an athletic focus would be a good fit.

Take the stick out of your butt.

We are new to Landon this year and are excited to meet the incoming headmaster later this year - or I least hope parents will be given the opportunity.
